Match Report and Player Ratings: Manchester City 1-1 (7-6 Pens) Manchester United (FA Community Shield)
The FA Community Shield was won by Manchester City over Manchester United in a penalty shootout, with Manuel Akanji and Bernardo Silva emerging as the team’s heroes.
Alejandro Garnacho’s goal was cancelled out by Bernardo Silva, forcing a penalty shootout to decide the FA Community Shield. Pep Guardiola’s team was able to exact revenge on Manchester United, who had defeated the Sky Blues in their previous meeting to win the FA Cup.
At Wembley Stadium, Manuel Akanji scored the game-winning penalty, and Manchester City won the trophy for the first time since 2019.
Guardiola started the game with four youth players, but Manchester City was still the superior team for the whole of the first half. Early on, Manchester United had most of the ball, but they were unable to generate any meaningful opportunities.
After managing to get possession of the ball, the Sky Blues started to expose the weaknesses in their opponent’s defence.
After the first fifteen minutes, Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku took command. The young wingers were beating their defenders with ease, but they were unable to create any shots on goal. The best chance of the half came in the twenty-fourth minute when James McAtee’s close-range shot beat Andre Onana but struck the post.
Late in the first half, Manchester United began to reply. Ten Hag’s team was able to get past Manchester City’s defence a few times, but Marcus Rashford wasted their greatest chance when he missed the target.
Bruno Fernandes’ superb strike from outside the area within the opening ten minutes of the second half gave Manchester United the impression that they were ahead. However, the offside flag was hoisted before the Portuguese international could even start to celebrate.
In the 63rd minute, Savinho entered the game in place of Doku.

Manchester United finally took advantage of their opportunities in the 82nd minute when Garnacho beat Ederson with a well-taken near-post finish, after threatening for the better part of fifteen minutes. The current FA Cup winners had been consistently finding gaps in City’s defence for the whole of the first half, so this goal had been coming for a while.
With a header from Bernardo Silva in the 89th minute, Manchester City finally pulled off the equaliser after not posing much of a threat for the majority of the second half. Oscar Bobb set it up, cutting a few yards of space with a beautiful turn before lofting the ideal ball to the far post.

With the scored tied at 1-1, the winner would be determined by penalties
In the penalty shootout, Manchester City had a difficult start. Onana easily saved Bernardo’s shoddy effort when he went first.
That would be Manchester City’s only miss, though. A few minutes later, Ederson stopped Jadon Sancho’s shot, and Johnny Evans skied his effort over the bar. preparing Akanji to emerge victorious.
These are our player rankings from Manchester City’s victory over Manchester United in the Community Shield.
Ederson’s player rating is 6.5.
A few passes were overhit early on, but other than that, everything went well. made a crucial save in the penalty area and wasn’t responsible for the goal.
Rico Lewis: 7.5%
As usual, he was neat with the ball and held his own against Rashford and Sancho for the most part.
Manuel Akanji: 7.5

Ruben Dias 7
Despite having only participated in a few training sessions thus far, Dias seemed to fit in much like Akanji.
Gvardiol Josko – 6.5
Excellent on the ball as usual. But for the entirety of the second half, it seemed as though Manchester United could easily target the area behind and were out of position for Garnacho’s goal.
Mateo Kovacic: 7.5
made a few mistakes with passes in the first few minutes but eventually found his rhythm. Excellent start to what will probably be an important first few minutes.
Seven James McAtee
appeared reliable throughout his first City start. If his shot had been successful, it may have been a memorable moment.
Nico O’Reilly: 6.5
Not a bad debut for the midfield player, either. Early in the game, the 19-year-old looked polished on the ball, but as it went on, his play deteriorated.
Erling Haaland – Six
Was mediocre when off the ball and had limited service to work with. A respectable performance.
Oscar Bobb (MOTM) – 8
was once again the finest player on the pitch. is confident and in excellent form as the season approaches.
Doku Jeremy -7.5
was a complete threat from the left. Had Nico O’Reilly attacked his cross in the first half, he might have had an assist.
Replacements: Matheus Nunes – 5.5
appeared menacing on a few occasions, but whenever United launched a counterattack, he repeatedly appeared out of position.
Savinho: 7
Excellent first performance; when on the ball, he looks menacing.
Bernardo: 7
