Tim Howard, a former goalkeeper for Manchester United, thinks Mauricio Pochettino would be successful at Old Trafford if he took over for Erik ten Hag. This summer, both managers have been rumored to be leaving their respective clubs; Pochettino has acknowledged that it wouldn’t be “the end of the world” if he left Chelsea.

Chelsea had a dismal first half of the season, but Pochettino has been able to turn things around. With three straight victories in the Premier League, the Blues have a chance to sneak into the European qualification spots during the last week of the 2023–24 campaign.

Ten Hag’s United, meanwhile, has only triumphed in two of their previous eleven Premier League games. After a week in which they lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace and 1-0 to Arsenal at home, there is more reason to believe that INEOS will fire the Dutchman soon.

Ten Hag has hinted that he might not be happy at Chelsea because the job is not what he “expected,” and Pochettino has been backed to succeed him if he decides to leave. Former United goalkeeper Howard, an American, thinks the team would support Pochettino more than they do their current manager.

When NBC asked Howard if he would be in favor of the Argentine being appointed at Old Trafford, Howard said, “I do.” We’ve seen the buy-in and the results demonstrate that culture is created by a collective buy-in. Under Ten Hag, I’ve never witnessed senior players buying in as a group.

It follows remarks made by Pochettino regarding discussions regarding his future with the Chelsea board: “It’s ideal if we’re happy, but it’s not just about the owners being happy. We should be questioned as well, as we might not be content and need to part ways.

This would not be the first time that a coaching staff made the decision to give up. I could declare that I’m leaving tomorrow. If they decide to do so, there will be two components to it. First, it won’t just be Chelsea’s dissatisfaction; the owner and sporting director will also be unhappy.

“We may not be content because we came here to complete a task, but it’s not what we were expecting in the end. It’s not that I’m unhappy. It’s not a problem and it won’t end the world if we split up.”

Ten Hag, meanwhile, maintains that he has no remorse about accepting the United position in 2022. In his first season, the Red Devils made it to the Champions League, but a dismal run of performances this year, coupled with injuries that have not helped the manager’s cause, have sparked calls for a change in the dugout.

Ten Hag declared, “I don’t regret being here in the slightest.” This club is enormous. The difficulties you encounter are unknown until you encounter them. However, I was eager for this challenge.

“There is great team spirit,” he continued. They fought in nearly all of the games. I was so disappointed that it wasn’t on Monday [at Palace]. However, in every other game they have engaged in combat. I am unable to question this.”
