Michael Owen goes on social media rant after Everton denied late penalty against Man Utd

Following the decision by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to overturn a late penalty that Everton had been awarded, Michael Owen has taken to social media to criticise the officials.
In the Premier League, the high-flying Toffees, coached by David Moyes, welcomed Manchester United to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
It was thanks to goals scored by Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure that Everton was leading by a score of 2-0 at the break.
Nevertheless, in the final twenty minutes of the game, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte scored goals to tie the score at 2-2.
After Ashley Young was taken down inside the United area, referee Andy Madley indicated that the penalty spot should be awarded. This occurred deep into stoppage time.
However, after a lengthy check by the video assistant referee (VAR), Madley was sent to the pitch side monitor, where he later changed his mind. As a result, the match ended with a chorus of boos, and both teams left with a point.
Following Everton’s decision to not award a late penalty, Michael Owen reacts on social media.
Owen, a former striker for United, Liverpool, and England, expressed his thoughts on the contentious decision online through various social media platforms.
According to what he wrote on X, “I am a fan of VAR, but that penalty in the last minute was a mess.” The video assistant referee (VAR) repeatedly offered the referee one angle, but it failed to show the shirt pull that De Ligt had committed. Maguire was not the offender.
When asked about a tweet sent by professional golfer Lee Westwood, Owen responded with the following: “Exactly. Because the video assistant referee failed to notice it and instead focused on the wrong player who committed the offence.
The player who had previously played for Real Madrid continued by saying, “The referee awarded the penalty for what he considered to be a foul committed by Maguire, which helps to explain it quite a bit.” Watching Match Officials Mic’d Up in a couple of weeks is something I’m looking forward to.
Rio Ferdinand, a former defender for the Red Devils, was quoted as saying, “I was feeling the worst when VAR got involved.” This statement was made via TNT Sports at the time. I couldn’t believe that it wasn’t distributed. There is a contact available. You are giving the referee the ability to make a decision when you put your hands on someone.
One point behind Everton, United maintains their position in the Premier League table as a result of the draw, which places them in 15th place.
As part of their return to action, the team coached by Ruben Amorim will play Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Wednesday. The match will take place in the Premier League.
