Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains uncertain about the duration of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s latest injury, which he describes as “unbelievable.”
The most recent in a string of fitness issues that Tomiyasu has encountered since his arrival at the Emirates, the former Bologna man was excluded from the Gunners’ USA tour squad due to a knee injury he sustained during training.

Tomiyasu has rapidly established himself as a public favourite in North London over the past three years, a feat that has been facilitated by his versatility in all defensive positions, including right-back, left-back, and center-back.

The Japan international was Arteta’s first choice on the left-hand side for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign, after neither Jakub Kiwior nor Oleksandr Zinchenko met the standards last season. In 30 matches, he scored two goals and assisted three others.

Arsenal confirmed that Tomiyasu had injured his knee and would be staying in London for treatment with Kieran Tierney, who is recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained while playing for Scotland at Euro 2024, when they announced their 26-man selection for their upcoming tour of the United States.

Arteta is uncertain about the duration of Tomiyasu’s recuperation.
The Gunners did not disclose the duration of the 25-year-old’s absence in a public statement; however, CBS Sports reports that the Tomiyasu may be absent for the entirety of the preseason.

Consequently, the Japanese defender would be unable to participate in the three transatlantic matches against Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Liverpool, as well as the home matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon next month.

Arteta expressed sympathy for Tomiyasu regarding his most recent concern during a press conference following Arsenal’s arrival in North America. However, he characterised his absence from the United States tour as a precautionary measure.

“The child’s diligence is extraordinary.” This week, he was involved in an incident during training. The severity of the knee injury is not yet known; however, we have elected to keep him in England as a precaution. Arteta is quoted by arsenal.com as stating, “We will observe the outcome.”

Tomiyasu has missed a total of 40 games for both his club and country during his three years at Arsenal. However, his absence will provide Jurrien Timber with the opportunity to establish himself following his abysmal debut campaign in North London.

Arteta is “extremely enthusiastic” about the potential of Timber.
Arteta is “extremely enthusiastic” about the Dutchman’s performance in the United States, despite the fact that he only made three appearances in 2023-24 as a result of the ACL injury he sustained on the first weekend of the Premier League season. However, he did score in a friendly victory over Leyton Orient on July 20, and he is “very excited” to see how he adjusts to the American game.

“His body language and demeanour indicate that he is exceedingly receptive.” The Spaniard continued, “I believe he is in a very favourable position at the moment, as a result of his diligent efforts.”

“We will need to supervise him in the coming weeks, particularly due to the significant disparity between the workload he has accomplished in the past few months and that of the next two weeks. Nevertheless, we are extremely enthusiastic.”

“He is a leader.” He is enthusiastic about being a prominent figure in all of our endeavours and enjoys being on display. He possesses an exceptional technical skill and is highly vocal. He is a splendid complement to the team.”

Arteta also disclosed that Arsenal is in the process of finalising a £37.9m agreement to acquire Riccardo Calafiori, a versatile defender from Bologna and Italy.
