Romano Fabrizio Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte are both open to moving to Old Trafford, and Manchester United was reported to be actively “working on” moves for both players last month.
The Reds’ chances of landing the midfield player have now been strengthened.

Ugarte will find it difficult to directly engage with clubs until he returns from the United States while he is currently overseas on international duty at the Copa America. Jorge Chijane, the player’s agent, will thus handle these discussions and has already mentioned the possibility of the player leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Chijane disclosed to O Jogo, as reported by The Mirror, that a different Premier League team was thinking about making a move for the 23-year-old Uruguayan.

Liverpool? Though there is a lot of chatter, there are other clubs. Others exist. He said, “There are a lot of options available, but it’s almost a given that he won’t stay.” He will undoubtedly depart.

“I think a solution will be found for the situation.”

Ugarte currently leads INEOS’ midfield wishlist. Prior to selecting Ugarte, United were rumoured to be searching the market for a Casemiro successor. They are looking for a midfielder who can assist Kobbie Mainoo continue to grow and thrive in his second season playing for the first squad.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool’s interest would bear fruit. One thing that United cannot give the former Sporting Lisbon star is Champions League football the next year.

After signing a £51.1 million contract last July, Ugarte has only been at the Parc des Princes for a year. It is thought that the Ligue 1 powerhouses would not be willing to absorb much, if any, loss on the money they spent for him.
