Pep Guardiola gives honest verdict after watching Arsenal edge past Man Utd
Prior to his team’s Tuesday night matchup with Tottenham, Pep Guardiola has made a statement.
The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has disclosed that he was present when Arsenal defeated Manchester United on Sunday. Because of the outcome, his team’s only chance to win the Premier League is to win both of their remaining games this season.
After taking the lead in the first half, Arsenal did not need to shift gears as they easily defeated United 1-0 at Old Trafford, limiting them to just two shots on goal and never really appearing in danger.
Kai Havertz received the ball on the edge of the United penalty area and squared it to his teammate, but Casemiro’s poor defensive positioning allowed Leandro Trossard to score the game-winning goal for the Gunners from close range.
With the win, Arsenal reclaimed their top spot in the Premier League, while City trailed by just one point but still had a game in hand over Mikel Arteta’s team. In their penultimate match of the season, Guardiola’s team will travel to Tottenham. He disclosed on Monday that he did observe Arsenal’s performance over the weekend.
“I have the feeling that to beat Arsenal today is so difficult, because they’ve made many, many good things in all departments,” the former Barcelona manager said when asked if he had watched the game. This is our final opportunity; please grant us another chance at home.
Ironically, the Gunners will be hoping that Tottenham wins Tuesday night’s match against City in order to increase their chances of winning the Premier League. Prior to the game, Guardiola praised Ange Postecoglou’s team and expressed his concern about the threat they could pose.
“Today and yesterday, observe how Spurs are as a team and what has changed recently—different players are playing—and the mentality is simple because if we don’t win, we don’t win the Premier League,” the Spaniard remarked. They are a more proactive team this season under a new manager, so we need to understand exactly what they are as a unit.
They never give up, even when they are down 4-0 at Anfield, sticking to their game plan because they are so aggressive. Although it is challenging, we are aware of the goal of the game, which is to give us the opportunity to play the final game at home.”
