Transfer analyst Gianluca Di Marzio claims that, given Victor Osimhen’s willingness to leave the Serie A team, Arsenal may rekindle their interest in signing the striker from Napoli.

The Nigerian international has decided to leave Napoli this summer, but no credible offer has been put forward by the team as of yet. Earlier in the transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain expressed interest in signing him, but they were unable to come to an agreement.

According to Di Marzio, PSG and Arsenal may make a move for Osimhen before the 19-day transfer deadline. The 25-year-old was not included in Napoli’s victory over Modena in yesterday’s Coppa Italia first-round match, which was decided by a penalty shootout.

Arsenal just added defender Riccardo Calafiori during the slow summer transfer window. Mikel Merino, a midfielder for Real Sociedad, is being considered by the team, and a bid may be made in the coming days.

Before the transfer season shuts, another top priority ought to be acquiring a new striker. Osimhen is still being mentioned as a possible target, but it remains to be seen if Arsenal is willing to pay a high price for him this summer.

The former Lille player’s contract has a £111 million buy-out option, and Napoli has shown little interest in accepting a lower offer in recent weeks. But as the transfer deadline draws near, their position can shift.

The 2022–23 Serie A champions may be inclined to drop their demands for Osimhen, who finished the previous season with 17 goals and 4 assists in 34 games, as he has made it obvious that he wants to move on.

Although the striker’s injury history has been a problem since moving to Naples, Jose Mourinho has stated that he possesses the qualities of a world-class striker, thus Arsenal may be willing to pay a significant cost in the range of £70–80 million.

The Nigerian star might be the last piece needed for Arsenal to put an end to their two-decade league title drought.
