Raphael Varane sends message to Ineos after he makes Manchester United decision
Raphael Varane’s announcement that he will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season has sparked the team’s clearance out.
After failing to reach an agreement on a new contract to prolong his stay at Manchester United, Raphael Varane has announced he will depart the team at the end of the current campaign.
The World Cup winner’s contract expires at the end of June, and after three injury-plagued years, he would have had to accept a pay decrease to stay with the team.
After missing the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, May 25, Varane is working to recover from his injury, which has kept him out of action since April 4. He has declared that he will attend Wednesday night’s Old Trafford farewell game against Newcastle, the team’s last home game of the season.
Varane, who announced his departure, nevertheless expressed optimism about United’s future under Ineos and claimed to have fallen in love with the team the moment he saw his signing made public on the field prior to the team’s opening-day victory over Leeds in 2021/22.
“To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it’s been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wearing that shirt,” stated Varane.
“As a Man United player, my first visit to Old Trafford was incredible; the atmosphere was incredible. I became enamored with the team and its supporters. To truly comprehend what that means, one must be a player for Manchester United.
This is where my kids call home, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Attending Wembley leaves a lasting impression on the fans. Being able to spend that time with them was truly incredible.
“Even though this season was challenging, I have a lot of optimism for the future. The new owners have a fantastic strategy and a well-defined plan. When we play our final home game of the season at Old Trafford, I’ll see you there.
“It’s going to be a very emotional day for me, for sure.”
The 31-year-old was a member of the team that won the Carabao Cup the previous season and has made 93 appearances for the team since joining for £42.5 million from Real Madrid.
