Man Utd supporters may now finally celebrate in the transfer market after weeks of waiting. There have been a number of sparks in the transfer market after signing Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro fairly early in the window, but none of them have really resulted in a fire.

Nevertheless, everything changed yesterday after it was revealed that Manchester United had struck a deal with Bayern Munich to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui for £60 million each, adding a new dimension to the defence.

Erik ten Hag was worried about the defensive. Due to the players’ propensity for injuries, it still is going into the new season, but Manchester United has added two wise signings. Thus, what made Erik ten Hag decide to start both players in his starting eleven?

Andre Onana will remain the unchallenged first choice in the goal. The Cameroonian will be looking to improve on his previous season’s performances. A back-four with Noussair Mazraoui at right back, Matthijs de Ligt at right centre back, Lisandro Martinez at left centre back, and Luke Shaw at left back might be lined up in front of him.

One of Manchester United’s greatest players over the last 18 months has been Diogo Dalot, thus Mazraoui will have to share the starting spot with the Portuguese international. Nevertheless, De Ligt is probably going to start, especially with another signing, Leny Yoro, out for three months.

Regarding midfield, Casemiro has demonstrated enough in the preseason for Manchester United to continue using him in a defensive midfield role. He is a lock to start because the team hasn’t signed a replacement player. English sensation Kobbie Mainoo would be his partner at the base of midfield.

Bruno Fernandes will undoubtedly start in front of the two as the #10, with Mason Mount ready to fill in. Alejandro Garnacho should start on the right, and Marcus Rashford should start from the left (if and when fit).

With Rasmus Hojlund sidelined for the season, Man Utd’s other recent addition, Joshua Zirkzee, is expected to start at striker. The Dutch number nine has the opportunity to claim the starting position at Old Trafford if he performs well.

With De Ligt and Mazraoui joining the team, Erik ten Hag’s squad appears more stable. Because of his versatility, Mazraoui can play left back when necessary. In contrast to players like Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire, the former is composed when playing defence. Man Utd is therefore better off with these two additions.
