Reason Why Leny Yoro ‘withdrawn’ from plans as Ruben Amorim makes feelings clear on £59m Man Utd star
Ruben Amorim has been extremely clear about his plans for Leny Yoro at Manchester United.
According to rumours, Leny Yoro was scheduled to play his first game of the season for Manchester United’s Under-21 team on Tuesday night against Altrincham. The Frenchman was one of the first players to meet new head coach Ruben Amorim at Carrington, where he trained during the November international break.
He has since recovered from a preseason metatarsal fracture that postponed his competitive debut following his summer transfer from Lille for £59 million.
Additionally, Yoro was told on Monday that he will start for the U21s in their 4-0 National League Cup triumph against Altrincham, according to the Manchester Evening News.
After observing the 19-year-old centre-back during practice, Amorim reportedly gave the order to remove him from the team.
Monday was Amorim’s first training session at Carrington.
In a short video clip that United made public, Yoro was shown during a training session starting on the right of United’s back three, with Luke Shaw on the left and Jonny Evans in the middle.
As United switches to a 3-4-3 shape, Yoro is expected to be a key part of Amorim’s new lineup. The teenage sensation may make his debut on the road against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
In a friendly match against Arsenal in Los Angeles on July 26, the Red Devils’ star summer addition broke the metatarsal bone in his left foot while making his second preseason appearance.
Amorim will be cautious with Yoro’s return, but given the uncertainty surrounding other center-backs, he could have to start him this weekend at Portman Road.
Harry Maguire appears to be ruled out of the trip to East Anglia after not being seen during training. Due to a calf injury he suffered during the first half of the October 6 goalless draw with Aston Villa, the United No. 5 has been out for seven weeks.
Victor Lindelof, who was forced off while playing for Sweden during the international break, is also a serious doubt.
Additionally, Lisandro Martinez’s fitness is in doubt. After receiving treatment from United’s physiotherapist Jordan Reece during the team’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City the previous time out, he was forced to withdraw from the Argentina squad owing to a back ailment.
Tyrell Malacia, who is very close to returning to senior football, played his first game for the team since May 2023 for the Under-21s in their EFL Trophy loss to Huddersfield Town last week.
Malacia may be vying for a position in Sunday’s squad after participating in team training for more than a month.
In addition to returning to full training, Shaw, who last played for United on February 18, has played as a left-wing-back and left-centre-back in a 3-4-3 system in the past.
