Roy Keane, 54, a Manchester United icon, has criticised Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover plans, calling them “a mess that shows no real direction for the club.”
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has delivered a scathing verdict on the current Sheffield Wednesday takeover situation, describing it as “a complete mess that shows a lack of ambition and respect for the fans.”
The outspoken pundit, never afraid to speak his mind, questioned the way the Hillsborough club has been managed in recent months and warned that supporters deserve far more honesty and direction from those running the show.
“It’s turning into a circus,” says Keane
Speaking during a recent football discussion, Keane didn’t hold back as he spoke about the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership and future.
“It’s turning into a circus. Every few weeks there’s another story about this takeover, another rumour, another promise — and still no real progress,” he said.
“The fans have every right to be angry. They pay their money, travel up and down the country, and yet they’ve been left in the dark. It’s not good enough.”

Keane’s strong words have resonated with many supporters, who feel frustrated by the slow pace of developments and the lack of clarity from those behind the scenes.
“This is a big club — start acting like one”
The former Manchester United captain went further, saying the club’s management must start behaving like a team with ambition and pride.
> “This is Sheffield Wednesday — a massive club with history and passionate fans. They should be pushing forward, not stuck in endless boardroom talks,” he said.
“If you want to buy this club, show that you mean business. Get proper people in charge, set a plan, and deliver. Stop feeding the fans empty words.”
Fans echo Keane’s frustration
Keane’s comments quickly went viral online, with Sheffield Wednesday fans flooding social media to express their agreement. Many said his words “spoke the truth” about what’s been happening at Hillsborough.
One supporter wrote:
> “Finally someone said it! Roy Keane’s right — we’re tired of waiting and hearing nothing. The club deserves better.”
Another added:
> “Say what you want about Keane, but he’s spot on. This takeover talk has dragged on forever and no one seems to know what’s going on.”
“The fans deserve clarity”
Keane ended his comments by urging those involved in the takeover to be transparent and respectful towards the supporters.
> “You can’t treat a club like Sheffield Wednesday as a business toy. The fans have been loyal through thick and thin — they deserve clarity, passion, and a real plan for success,” he concluded.
What happens next?
The future of Sheffield Wednesday remains uncertain as negotiations over the potential takeover continue behind closed doors. While no official announcement has been made, pressure is now growing from fans — and high-profile figures like Roy Keane — for the club to end the silence and set a clear path forward.
As one of the most talked-about clubs in the EFL right now, all eyes will be on Hillsborough to see whether words finally turn into action.
