Roy Keane leaves pundits speechless during rant over Man Utd’s board meeting
Immediately following Erik ten Hag’s most recent board meeting, Roy Keane threw down the law to his fellow commentators by going on an epic tirade about the present situation at Manchester United.
At the conclusion of his lengthy rant against the present situation at Manchester United, Roy Keane left his fellow commentators unable to find the words to express themselves.
Keane discussed his opinions on Erik ten Hag’s present situation with Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney, Jill Scott, and Ian Wright on the Stick to Football podcast that was brought to you by Sky Bet. The show was hosted by The Overlap. Ten Hag’s status was discussed during a board meeting that lasted for seven hours and took place on Tuesday. The discussion was conducted in response to a bad start to the 2024/25 season.
As a result of a spate of lackluster performances, the United manager is coming under increasing amounts of criticism. The squad has not been able to score a victory in any of their most recent five matches across all competitions. Despite making an investment of about £205 million during the summer, Ten Hag has only managed to collect six victories in the club’s most recent 21 Premier League matches, and they have only managed to win one of their past ten European matches.
It appears like Ten Hag’s position is secure for the time being, despite the fact that there has been a deafening quiet since the board meeting that took place in London. However, if the situation continues to deteriorate, there will be another review scheduled. On the other side, Keane, a former midfielder for United, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the way operations are now being managed at his old club.
When Keane was questioned if he expected that Ten Hag would continue to serve in his present position until at least Christmas, he admitted that he was unaware of the occurrences that were taking place behind the scenes at Old Trafford and stated that he did not “recognize” the current state of things for the club.
Regarding the question of whether or not Ten Hag will carry on till the end of the year, Keane stated, “I do not know.” I have no doubt that clubs hold board meetings on a regular basis, and I am certain that they are always debating such topics as the management, recruiting, and personnel. My perception of United has always been that it was about decent people and good personalities, as well as individuals who could play for Manchester United and handle with the pressure, but I don’t see that happening anymore. I have no idea who this team is, and I have no idea what club they belong to.
“A couple of months ago everyone was saying, ‘they’ve got new people coming on board, they’ll have all the answers’, more money on recruitment and United have gone backwards.”
Keane said that United is in danger of losing its footballing identity as a result of the fact that the business side of the club is threatening to eclipse what occurs on the pitch. He also mentioned the changes that have occurred in the hierarchy of United as well as the frequent comings and goings at all levels of the club. The gathering fell into a startled hush as he delivered the harsh message to his old club. His statements left the group in shocked stillness.
“They’re chopping and changing and getting rid of everyone in the background which is fine, there’s a business side to it, we know that,” Keane said to reporters. When we talk about Manchester United, however, it takes on the characteristics of a corporation rather than a football club. Football clubs are about people, but they are also about decent people who show up and put in a shift, and who are also nice people who are honest.
“We all work in sport and in different environments and it’s about working with good people, and what I see at Man United, stepping back a bit, and it might be a bit harsh, I’m not sure I’m seeing proper footballing people who are making the right decisions for the club.”
The manner in which the inner workings of the club are being widely disclosed makes it very evident that Keane is enraged. In addition to this, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of confidentiality surrounding board meetings and voiced his criticism of the ongoing dependence on legacy figures for innovation and transformation.
“It’s more of a corporation that is holding these board meetings, and everyone seems to know about these board meetings. Why is it that they can’t hold these board meetings without anyone knowing about them or where they are? It is not possible to tell me that they are unable to locate a charming modest hotel in the lakes or anywhere else,” Keane stated.
“I’m not kidding; why do we have access to all of this information?? Why is this so widely known to the public? Do you find yourself wondering whether things are ever going to change when you see all of these people at the match, all lined up, and (Sir Alex) Ferguson’s presence?
It has been stated that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer, and Sir Dave Brailsford, the head of INEOS Sports, are the three individuals who are in charge of making decisions at Old Trafford. This is despite the fact that Keane is upset that the hierarchy of Manchester United has failed to perform its due diligence. In addition, the group spoke with CEO Omar Berrada, Chief of Sport Dan Ashworth, Chief of Technical Operations Jason Wilcox, Chief of Finance Roger Bell, and Chief of Operations Collette Roche in order to explore the future of Ten Hag.
Ratcliffe has avoided taking full responsibility for any decision on Ten Hag’s future, despite the fact that he is a big player at United and holds a great deal of influence. During an interview with BBC Sport, Ratcliffe attempted to minimize the impact of his power by stating, “At the end of the day, it’s not my call.”
“It’s the management team that’s running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects.”
