The primary explanation for Valeri Gromyko of Kairat being permitted to play in the match against Celtic (0-0) in spite of the yellow card restriction

Celtic must perform more objectives to advance to the Champions League group stage.

Kairat Almaty held the Hoops in the first leg at Celtic Park on a night when the fans turned against them.

Brendan Rodgers cleverly replied to the sacking calls, as big sections of the Celtic crowd screamed for the board to be fired.

Kairat’s draw was very good value, and they had a quality team that included Valeri Gromyko.

Gromyko was permitted to play for the visitors despite having received three yellow cards in the previous Champions League matches, according to some commentators.

Valeri Gromyko was permitted to play in the match between Kairat and Celtic because Champions League rules require players who receive three yellow cards to be suspended for one match.

Nonetheless, these limitations apply only to the basic league phase, not to the qualifiers. Instead, the three bookings clause only applies to two rounds at a time, therefore Gromyko would have had to be booked in three of the four rounds.

This means Gromyko was allowed to play in the game against the Hoops and will be eligible for the second leg.

Kairat Almaty, a wonderchild, will miss the second leg of the Champions League.

Dastan Satpaev, Kairat Almaty’s poster kid, is among those who will be unable to compete in the second leg.

The 17-year-old, one of Kazakhstan’s most exciting athletes in recent years, will join Chelsea when he turns 18.

It is a pitiful break before the 7,000-mile voyage to Almaty, but Brendan Rodgers will still need to perform at his peak in order to win.
