During a rather quiet summer, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has provided fans with an update on the club’s plans regarding player transfers.

Liverpool has entered a new era, but it appears to be rather comparable to the previous one at the moment. This is due to the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Anfield has come to an end.

Therefore, it is not a simple task to discover a player who is capable of meeting such standards, and then the question that arises is whether or not he is available. Following that, we are required to come to an arrangement with them; hence, it is not always simple to locate a player who is able to assist us; but, [sporting director] Richard Hughes is putting in a lot of effort here, and we will see what results this brings about.

“My main focus, as I said when I started, was working with the team and preparing them in the best possible way for the first Premier League game and of course for these games as well and apart from that he is working on things and he keeps me updated every time but my main focus is the team over here.”

Given that Liverpool was unable to acquire Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, both of whom went on to join Chelsea, the club has been keeping an eye out for a defensive midfielder over the course of the past year.

Slot, however, is of the opinion that he may already possess the solution inside his team, specifically Ryan Gravenberch, whom the Reds acquired from Bayern Munich in the latter part of the summer transfer window in 2023.

“I think Ryan Gravenberch did really well in that position [on Sunday vs United] and we have other options as well,” Slot stated in his interview.

“When we have all of the players back and we still haven’t [got them], that is the best way to judge it,” the coach said.

“However, a club like as Liverpool always keeps its eyes open to see what is available, players who may boost the group, and that is what we — mostly Richard, but I am also seeking to do — are looking to do, but this is not limited to a single position. We are always evaluating the team to determine where we can make a difference and what we already possess.

Despite the fact that Liverpool has not yet acquired a new player for the summer, they have been associated with a number of different choices, one of which being a controversial move for Anthony Gordon, a standout player for Newcastle who came up through the academy of Everton, Liverpool’s bitter rivals.

After Joel Matip left Crystal Palace on a free transfer this summer, the Eagles have shown interest in signing Marc Guehi, but they are seeking a significant fee for his services.

It has been seen that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sniggering about the possibility of a transfer to Real Madrid, and Joe Gomez may quit the club in order to play more first-team games.

As is the case with Alexander-Arnold, the crucial tandem of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also in the final year of their contracts and have the potential to depart for nothing beginning in the next year.
