This is my first game here, therefore I’m not going to repeat the same error that Ten Hag made in the past by giving him the starting slot; I owe supporters this match.” Ruben Amorim reveals the ONE Man United player that will not start for him today, despite being a starter under Ten Hag.
Ruben Amorim will play his first Manchester United starting XI on Sunday afternoon when the Red Devils travel to Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
The Portuguese manager’s debut will be a talking topic at Portman Road, with Manchester United fans hoping the 39-year-old’s tenure begins with a win. While he cannot be expected to turn things around overnight, a successful start in English football would undoubtedly earn the trust of the Old Trafford fans.
Amorim is anticipated to make significant alterations to Manchester United’s setup upon his arrival, implementing his preferred, and most crucially successful, 3-4-3 configuration from Sporting CP. Who will play where remains to be known, although injuries may limit his options initially.
Here’s how Amorim may line up Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United expected lineup vs. Ipswich (3-4-3)
GK: Andre Onana — The goalkeeping position is not up for grabs under the current management, with Onana undoubtedly the top choice. He could do with delivering a flawless performance for Amorim’s debut.
CB: Matthijs de Ligt – De Ligt was signed by Erik ten Hag and had previously worked with the former Manchester United coach. He must now adapt to new management, albeit a three-at-back system should suit him.
CB: Jonny Evans. With centre-back injuries a concern – Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, and Victor Lindelof are all injured or doubtful – Evans’ dependable experience might be utilized to stop the powerful Liam Delap.
CB: Lisandro Martinez – Martinez did not play for Argentina during the international break owing to injury and is unlikely to play at Portman Road. However, if fit, the small left-footer should be part of the back three.
RM: Diogo Dalot – If Amorim uses his 3-4-3 formation, it would be interesting to watch how he performs in wide areas. Dalot will give balance on the right side, but he isn’t a very enticing offensive option.
CM: Casemiro. Following an injury scare against Leicester City before the break, Casemiro has returned to training for the Red Devils. With Kobbie Mainoo expected to sit out this weekend, the Brazilian is a lock to form one side of the two-man midfield, despite his recent vacation to the United States.
CM: Manuel Ugarte – During their time together at Sporting, the combative midfielder made 85 appearances for Amorim, and he is expected to be a fan favourite under his former manager. He understands just what is necessary to thrive under the new coach.
LM: Noussair Mazraoui – Like Dalot on the right side, Mazraoui is a reliable alternative at left midfield/wing-back, though Amorim may be tempted to choose a natural winger on one of the two wings.
RW: Bruno Fernandes. There have been questions over Fernandes’ position in the lineup under Amorim. Typically played as a number 10, United’s captain may have to go wider under his compatriot.
ST: Rasmus Hojlund – Hojlund will be hoping that Amorim can develop him into an exceptional centre-forward in the same way that he did with Viktor Gyokeres at Lisbon. A fresh start will be beneficial for the young striker.
LW: Marcus Rashford – Rashford has been far from his best for some time, but Amorim’s arrival might inspire a comeback for the England international. His spot in the starting lineup is obviously not certain.
