According to the Sun, Ruud van Nistelrooy encouraged Manchester United players to support the new head coach, Ruben Amorim, before departing the Old Trafford club after his interim tenure as manager.

The Dutchman was appointed as the interim manager of the Red Devils following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag last month. During his tenure, he secured victories in three of the four games he supervised, while the fourth was a draw.

Despite Van Nistelrooy’s desire to remain at Man United following the appointment of Amorim, the Portuguese manager has appointed his own backroom personnel and does not have intentions to retain the former striker.

As a consequence, the Dutchman has departed the club following the 39-year-old’s arrival to commence work yesterday. However, he insisted that the players exert their full potential under the new manager.

The majority of them desired Van Nistelrooy to remain at Man United, as he had developed a rapport with them during his tenure as an assistant coach in the summer.

Nevertheless, the dismissal of Ten Hag virtually ensured his departure; however, he harbours aspirations of returning to his former club to assume management.

After winning the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup during his year-long tenure as manager of PSV Eindhoven, he departed in May 2023. His curriculum vitae has been enhanced by his impressive performance during his brief tenure at Manchester United.

Amorim will expect to make an immediate impact upon the resumption of Premier League play on November 24, when he travels to Ipswich Town. The tactician’s future will be closely monitored.

The 39-year-old is confident in his ability to return to the pinnacle of English and European football, following his success with Sporting Lisbon, and will collaborate with his three long-term assistants, Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, and Emanuel Ferro, as well as goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital and fitness coach Paulo Barreira.
