The highly regarded Sweden international Anna Sandberg has officially signed a three-year contract with Manchester United, with an additional year option.

The defender, who has played for BK Hacken since July 2022 and gained Champions League experience with the Damallsvenskan team, is joining the Reds.

Sandberg participated in the Swedish team that placed third at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on the international scene.

Her transfer fee, which will surpass the £150,000 Everton paid to Rosengard for Hanna Bennison in 2021, will set a record for a Swedish women’s player. The 21-year-old full-back joins United as its fourth summer addition after Melvine Malard, Elisabeth Terland, and Dominique Janssen.

Sandberg remarked, “I’m really happy and grateful to sign for this big club, Manchester United.” “I hope my skills can benefit our team and bring our amazing fans many winning moments.”

“We are thrilled to have Anna join our Manchester United family,” manager Marc Skinner continued. She is a young, gifted player with a tonne of Champions League and international experience under her belt. We’re excited to watch her progress in red.”

United won the Women’s FA Cup and placed fifth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) the previous year. On September 21–22, 2024–25, they will play West Ham United at Old Trafford to begin their campaign.
