After his antics during the Community Shield penalty shootout, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was left giggling by Manchester United custodian Andre Onana.

In the customary season opening, the two bitter rivals engaged in an enthralling 1-1 tie at Wembley Stadium during regular time. Bruno Fernandes’ goal was disallowed for offside, and Marcus Rashford struck the crossbar before Alejandro Garnacho gave United the lead on minute 82.

The Argentine international for United cut inside to shoot the ball beneath Ederson from the right side. As stoppage time approached, Bernardo Silva outpaced Facundo Pellistri at the back post and sent a header past Onana to help City cancel out his strike.

fines. With Onana saving Bernardo’s weak penalty kick to put the Reds ahead, United led 3-1 in the shootout.

When the Norwegian stepped up and decided to use psychological tactics to try and outwit his opponent, it was evident that the Cameroonian’s confidence had increased. To get Haaland’s attention, Onana started by yelling something that sounded like “big man” at him.

Haaland planted the ball there, then glanced up and grinned as Onana, who was standing on the left, motioned for him to shoot the penalty to the right of his goal. However, Haaland misled the United ‘keeper to slot the ball into the left side of the goal, so this move was ineffective.

Turning around, Haaland could not help but giggle at Onana’s antics as he jogged back to the halfway line. When the match proceeded to sudden death, Jonny Evans’ attempt flew over the crossbar, and Jadon Sancho missed the subsequent penalty, thus the Norwegian would also get the last laugh.

The Community Shield was won by City 7–6 in a shootout when Manuel Akanji, who notoriously missed a penalty against England at Euro 2024, drove the demons out of his body to score the game-winning goal.

Both teams will now focus on the Premier League, which begins on Friday night when Erik ten Hag’s team hosts Fulham and Sunday when Pep Guardiola’s team visits Chelsea.
