Who John Textor would rather completely take over between Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County is revealed.
John Textor is apparently interested in being engaged in Derby County’s ownership circle, amid speculation of a possible takeover of Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
That is according to a new report from Alan Nixon posted on Patreon on Sunday morning, which explains the latest efforts the American is claimed to be doing in order to re-enter English football.
Textor was most recently a stakeholder at Premier League side and current FA Cup holders Crystal Palace, but he left the club in the summer after being at the forefront of controversial developments that saw the Eagles demoted from the UEFA Europa League to the UEFA Europa Conference League due to an alleged violation of the organization’s’multi-club ownership’ rules.
He has since become the subject of widespread takeover speculation in the early weeks of the current season, none more so than at Hillsborough, with Wednesday’s ownership situation becoming well-documented since the latter stages of last season, when rumblings of major discontent under Dejphon Chansiri first surfaced.
The South Yorkshire club is currently in its second week under the administration of administrators Begbies Traynor, after Chansiri’s decision to place the club in such measures in response to HMRC’s threat of a winding-up order over an unpaid tax payment.
Since then, however, at least ten parties are claimed to be interested in obtaining complete ownership of the club, with Textor being one of the most well-known names in this regard.
However, it is fair to state that Wednesday is not his sole choice at the moment, since such developments are repeated by Nixon’s aforementioned story.
Who John Textor would choose to take over between Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County

Textor’s interest in acquiring minority or majority control of an English club is not new; he was previously interested in taking over Everton prior to his involvement in Crystal Palace, which ended in controversial circumstances due to his ownership stakes in Ligue 1 side Lyon, which also qualified for the Europa League this season.
The 60-year-old, along with ex-Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, have been widely connected with a purchase of the Owls in recent weeks, with reports indicating that the American has spoken with the administration about the possibility of a deal being completed as soon as possible.
It has recently been alleged that the administrators hope to see at least £50 million in proof of finances, with three parties supposedly able to demonstrate such sums.
While Textor’s prospective involvement in Wednesday is still being discussed, the next club he has expressed interest in is Derby, with chairman and lifelong supporter David Clowes looking for foreign investment to help the Rams’ near and long-term success.
Indeed, Clowes found the East Midlands side in the same scenario as Wednesday in the summer of 2022, when he completed a £33 million takeover to save his boyhood club from administration.
However, a critical feature in Nixon’s report may put people in the Steel City at ease, as it is alleged that the Owls remain Textor’s first preference when it comes to a transaction, with Derby coming in second.
Derby County happenings make John Textor’s Sheffield Wednesday discussion even more intriguing.
It is undeniable that Derby and Sheffield Wednesday are two of the Championship’s most powerful and historically significant clubs, putting Textor in a fascinating situation.
However, while Pride Park supporters would welcome further funding to boost their club’s advancement, they understand better than most how crucial it is for a person like Textor to acquire majority control of S6 ahead of a much-needed reset.
The Owls earned their first point since entering administration with a goalless draw against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, but they remain far from safety due to the EFL’s obligatory 12-point deduction imposed on the club on October 24.
However, the vibe around the club is as upbeat as it has been in recent years now that Chansiri is out of the spotlight, implying that next season, which will most likely be in League One, will be the first of many in what Wednesdayites hope will eventually lead to a return to the Premier League.
