Worried Chris Sutton selects the only’strong’ Celtic manager candidate he has heard of.

Celtic are in an unusual situation.

Dermot Desmond has previously led manager searches, but these have rarely occurred in the middle of the season. Brendan Rodgers’ resignation pushed him hand.

Desmond’s angry outburst on Rodgers made it clear how he felt about the 52-year-old’s recent conduct.

However, with Martin O’Neill temporarily in charge of the team, the spotlight has shifted to the Hoops’ preparations for a new hire.

And Celtic hero Chris Sutton is not convinced by the prospects he has heard about thus far.

Chris Sutton discusses Celtic’s potential replacement for Brendan Rodgers. While O’Neill has stated that he does not plan to stay in the position long-term, his recent 4-0 victory against Falkirk may have swayed some fans.

Nevertheless, the search for Rodgers’ permanent replacement is already underway.

O’Neill has stated that he expects the Hoops to select a ‘young, upcoming’ coach in his place, which would be a shift in policy following recent appointments.

However, according to Sutton’s piece in the Daily Record, there is just one’strong’ candidate aside from the unexpected Ange Postecoglou.

He said, “Look, there was going to be change. Brendan was finished, and we could all see it at Tynecastle last Sunday. The team was abject and had basically stopped performing.

“You could argue it was due to the Honda Civic, which, I repeat, he should not have said.

“But the ending was unimpressive, and Celtic are now on the chase. If you ask me who I would like to see as the club’s next manager, I’d suggest Ange Postecoglou. But, to be honest, I don’t think it will happen because he seems to desire a break.

“I’d like to believe the club has requested. I’ve heard the other candidates, just like everyone else. There are some good names in there, such as Kieran McKenna, but if it isn’t Postecoglou, I can’t think of a compelling contender.

“For now, it’s Martin and Shaun and their job is to ensure Celtic are still fighting for the honours by the time the new guy enters the building.”

Celtic Manager Candidates to Replace Brendan Rodgers
Postecoglou was formerly thought to be the front-runner to succeed Rodgers, but rumors now suggest that the Australian hero’s return to Celtic Park is improbable.

Kieran McKenna is widely regarded as the favorite, and he has not ruled out leaving Ipswich for the Hoops. However, with the 39-year-old under a long-term lucrative contract, it remains to be seen whether Desmond can complete the transaction.

Robbie Keane is interested in the position, since the former Celtics striker is currently in charge of Ferencvaros in Budapest. However, the Ireland legend’s lack of experience and ties to Israel could be problematic.

Kjetil Knutsen, Wilfried Nancy, and Lee Carsley have also been connected, but Craig Bellamy, who is currently preparing to lead Wales to the World Cup next summer, will not be available.
