Arne Slot explains the only rule he’s brought in at Liverpool that differs from Jurgen Klopp

Arne Slot has experienced a remarkable start to life at Liverpool, with eight victories from his first nine matches in charge, and he feels the small improvements have made a major difference.

Arne Slot claims he has only made one major alteration during Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool, and it isn’t on the pitch.

Slot has had a flying start to his Liverpool career since replacing Klopp in the summer, and on Wednesday night he became the first Liverpool manager in history to win eight of his first nine matches in charge, defeating Bologna in the Champions League.

Liverpool is also top of the Premier League after six games, with Slot garnering a lot of acclaim for how he’s adjusted to filling such big shoes after the departure of the popular Klopp.

But, rather than focusing on the accolades, Slot has always been quick to point out that Klopp left behind a strong culture at Liverpool as well as a talented playing squad, and when asked by Sky Sports about the main ‘rule’ he has implemented since his arrival, he said it all comes down to the squad’s sleeping arrangements.

“Maybe we’ve implemented one or two (rules), but I don’t even know what they are,” Slot remarked. “There was already a pretty excellent culture of players being on time, so I hate it when we have to speak about fines and other consequences for being late. It’s usual to be on time.

“But that culture was already there, so maybe the only one – I’m not sure if it’s a rule – but they used to go into hotels a lot the day before a game, and that’s what we’ve changed, because I and my staff believe the best place to sleep is in your own bed, so you get the best rest possible.”

“So it’s not really a rule, but it’s one of the few things we’ve altered. So, instead of staying at a hotel, the players prepare for a home game in their own home, with their own beds. That’s not a rule, but it has changed.

Liverpool go to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in search of a victory that will maintain them top of the Premier League after the international break, following which they face a difficult run of league games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Aston Villa.
