Manchester United will be hoping for their first Europa League win of the season on Thursday when they take on Portuguese giants Porto, and under-fire manager Erik ten Hag may make changes.

Manchester United go to Porto on Thursday evening in a game that might determine Erik ten Hag’s future.

The Dutchman is under intense pressure at Old Trafford following a poor run of form. Club officials are content to continue with Ten Hag for the time being, but he has two critical games to keep his job.

On Thursday evening, the Red Devils will face Portuguese powerhouse Porto. After being held by FC Twente in their first Europa League match of the season, a win is definitely required.

And Ten Hag may be tempted to make changes to his team for a game that will have far-reaching consequences for the club’s future.

Starting in goal, Andre Onana appears to be a lock to start again. The Cameroonian has been an almost constant presence for the Red Devils since joining from Inter Milan, both domestically and in Europe.

Ten Hag appears to be settling on a favorite backline, given United’s defensive investment this summer. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, who arrived this summer, would be stationed on either side.

Despite a rocky start at Old Trafford, the former Bayern Munich star will be joined by old teammate Matthijs de Ligt at the back. Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire are both still out, while Victor Lindelof has just recently returned, leaving Lisandro Martinez as the apparent choice for the vacant centre-back spot.

Which team should United play against Porto? Please share your ideas in the comments below.

Ten Hag faces some challenges when he transitions to midfield. Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount both had troubles against the Spurs.

Mount has not travelled, but even if Mainoo does, Ten Hag may be persuaded to rest the kid. Manuel Ugarte would make his second start for the team, while Brazilian midfielder Casemiro might be called up despite his struggles this season.

Bruno Fernandes had a nightmare in his most recent game, with the Portuguese midfielder receiving a red card against Tottenham. He has subsequently had his red card revoked, and while it does not apply in the Europa League, it is quite probable that he will play. Fernandes will undoubtedly be eager to make an impact upon his return to Portugal.

Ten Hag has the opportunity to make modifications in the offensive. Marcus Rashford, an academy graduate, returned against Spurs and appears to have secured his starting spot.

So far, United’s front three has struggled to get going, which might mean Amad gets a chance. The Ivorian has made six starts this season and seems to be a solid choice to start on the right.

Finally, Ten Hag has a crucial decision to make centrally. Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has headed the line for the bulk of the season, but Rasmus Hojlund is now firmly back in the mix.

Given the Red Devils’ struggles, the Dane’s recall would not be surprising. He has made a number of substitute appearances and might get his first start of the season against Porto.
