Gary Neville, a former Manchester United defender, has given a sobering assessment of the team’s current state, saying that manager Ruben Amorim is dealing with a “mediocre” team.

Following their 3-0 victory on Sunday, Bournemouth became the most recent team to depart Old Trafford with all three points. With goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert, and Antoine Semenyo to propel the Cherries into the European spots, Andoni Iraola’s team replicated the scoreline from their victory the previous season.

Due to a series of home losses, United entered the Christmas season in the Premier League’s bottom half for the first time ever. Neville has stated that Sunday’s sobering loss is a “massive positive” despite the fact that the new Portuguese head coach has ignored the decline since taking over from Erik ten Hag.

“I believe that Ruben Amorim is seeing what he has, which is a huge plus. On his podcast, he stated, “There have been occasions in the past when you can be duped into believing you have a better group of players because of respectable results and moving up the league.” But in every aspect, they are a mile distant.

“He will need to alter the 3-4-3 in order to play the manner Amorim desires. By rotating the team, he has given everyone a chance, and I doubt that many will be the ones he has watched and decided, “Yes, I want you on the bus.”

“Let’s be honest, they are better than what they are displaying. They are all quite mediocre, and I’m not sure how that happened. However, there is a pattern,” Neville continued.

“If you will, he has six months of a beauty parade, which is actually more of an ugly parade. There must be a cultural change since he is witnessing what Manchester United supporters have been watching for ten years.

“It’s a really turbulent moment; there aren’t many positive aspects of their play or performance levels. It’s not a personal attack; they are all just guys doing their hardest, but they aren’t good enough to play for Manchester United, which wants to be the best.

“It’s quite clear watching these players, they are not good enough’.”
