Sporting Lisbon is apparently poised to sever ties with Ruben Amorim’s successor merely one month into his tenure at the club.

Following over four years at Sporting, Amorim left the club last month to succeed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

During his tenure, Amorim achieved Sporting’s first league title in almost twenty years and replicated this success the following season, amid increasing talk over a potential move to the Premier League.

Following Amorim’s departure, the club chose former Portugal international Joao Pereira as his successor.

Pereira formerly managed the club’s reserve team and took charge of the senior team on November 11.

Following a mere victory in one of his initial four league matches, the club is apparently poised to dismiss the 40-year-old.

As reported by Portuguese outlet Record News, the decision follows the club’s recent dismal performance, which included a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal and a 2-1 loss to Club Brugge in the Champions League.

The story indicates that club executives will convene with Pereira following the Christmas recess, and he is not anticipated to remain in his position when Sporting hosts Benfica on Sunday.

Notwithstanding a faltering recent performance under Pereira, Sporting retains its position at the summit of the Primeira Liga, leading second-placed Porto on goal difference.

The club has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, overcoming a challenge from Santa Clara on Wednesday, ultimately winning in extra time due to a goal from star striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Amorim has seen a varied beginning to his tenure at Old Trafford.

Following a solitary victory in his initial four Premier League matches with the club, Amorim guided United to a thrilling triumph in the Manchester derby against their arch-rivals last weekend.

Any expectations that the outcome would mark a turning point for the club’s most dismal commencement to a Premier League season were swiftly extinguished.

On Saturday, United suffered a decisive 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

In his post-match remarks, Amorim emphasized the presence of ‘anxiety’ inside his team but affirmed his commitment to continue with his tactical reconstruction.

“At this moment, everything is exceedingly difficult,” stated Amorim. It is exceedingly difficult for all involved when a club of Manchester United’s stature suffers a 3-0 defeat at home.

The supporters are exceedingly disheartened and fatigued. The atmosphere in the stadium is palpable from the initial play. I comprehend that; yet, we must confront it. I sensed it from the outset; there is considerable concern.

All individuals in the group are fatigued by these instances. We must confront the situation and concentrate on the upcoming match.
