Paul Scholes asserts that Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte is evolving into a ‘untouchable’ under Ruben Amorim subsequent to their 2-2 stalemate with Liverpool on Sunday.

The ex-Red Devils midfielder commended the Uruguayan international for his remarkable performance at Anfield, where United achieved an unexpected draw against the Premier League leaders, so terminating their three-match losing skid.

Ugarte, who commenced with Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, was instrumental in United’s pressing strategy and transitions in the central area, achieving an 88% pass accuracy, executing four tackles, and making two clearances.

In his post-match remarks, Scholes expressed his astonishment at Ugarte’s performance against Liverpool and praised the player for ‘developing in confidence’ following a sluggish beginning at Old Trafford.

Ugarte seems to be acclimating to his United career after his initial £42m transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, having faced challenges in demonstrating his full potential during the opening months under Erik ten Hag.

The 23-year-old is emerging as a crucial player for United under Amorim, with whom he collaborated at Sporting Lisbon, securing the Portuguese League Cup in the 2021/22 season.

The Uruguayan international has commenced six of United’s past seven Premier League matches, absent solely from their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle last week due to suspension.

Manchester United now occupies the 14th position in the league standings after 20 matches and will next compete against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round, followed by a match against Southampton in the Premier League next week.

The Red Devils are preparing for a hectic January transfer window and are likely to release several players, with Marcus Rashford and Antony deemed available.
