He previously turned his back on Real Madrid, one of the most powerful clubs in Europe, but now Mathys Tel is firmly on the radar of Chelsea and Enzo Maresca for the January transfer window.

Chelsea is reportedly interested in Mathys Tel, who is now playing for Bayern Munich. This transfer might result in Christopher Nkunku leaving the club in the opposite way.

The teenager, who was just 17 years old at the time, arrived in Germany in 2022 after being acquired from Rennes for a hefty sum of twenty-four million pounds. Although he is still in his early stages of development, he has already established himself as the youngest player to ever score for the club in a DFB Cup match, just a few short months after signing his contract.

Nevertheless, the 33-time Bundesliga winners have entered the trade market with a rumoured interest in Blues ace Nkunku. Under Enzo Maresca, Nkunku’s primary position has been that of a cup deputy or benchwarmer during the course of his career.

Tel, who had earlier rejected Real Madrid in favour of remaining in Munich, may now be a crucial piece of the jigsaw in a prospective move for Chelsea’s Frenchman. Personal conditions are rumoured to have been agreed upon, and the prodigy may be used to perhaps sweeten the sale.

Before Tel moved to Germany, there were rumours that the Bernabeu was interested in him as a player who could play there. AS stated that Tel had already turned down Los Blancos’ offers, and that after joining Bayern, he had turned down their No. 9 shirt because he wanted to earn the accolade rather than simply be given it.

Nkunku’s record in the German top division makes for fantastic reading, as he recorded 47 goals and 43 assists in 119 games for RB Leipzig. However, it is possible that he may never achieve that since his employers are considering making a transfer for Nkunku. There is a possibility that the 19-year-old will be travelling to London as part of a trade.

BILD believes that a trade is a possible option, with Chelsea having a reciprocating interest in bringing Tel to Stamford Bridge and discussions still underway. Reports in Germany claim that a verbal agreement has been made between Nkunku and Bayern, and BILD supports this belief.

Despite the fact that Tel signed a contract extension until 2029 less than a year ago, Maresca’s side is said to have shown interest in him for the first time over the summer. Taking into consideration that he has only featured seven times for new manager Vincent Kompany this season, a showing of the exit door may be appreciated.

In addition, Tel already has one high-profile admirer in the form of Harry Kane, a teammate and renowned goal-scorer. Kane made the following statement about Tel in the previous year: “He’s begun the season incredibly well. It is impressive how he works out. He is continually pushing himself to his limits and is completely dedicated. Every time he did come in, he made a difference, and he exudes a great deal of self-assurance.
