In the match between Chelsea and Bournemouth that took place on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge, David Brooks, a top player for Bournemouth, was involved in an altercation with Marc Cucurella, but he was not shown a red card. The Premier League has now broken their statement.

It has been determined by the Premier League that David Brooks did not get a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella of Chelsea to the ground because the incident did not constitute aggressive conduct.

“The video assistant referee (VAR) recommended an on-field review for a possible red card to be given to Brooks for violent conduct,” read a statement. After conducting an investigation, the referee determined that the challenge that was made on Cucurella was an act of recklessness rather than aggressive behaviour. As a result, Brooks was given a yellow card.

Due to the fact that Welsh winger Brooks appeared to use his arm to bring Cucurella down while Chelsea was attempting to start a counterattack, referee Rob Jones consulted the pitchside monitor after being alerted to the possibility of a violent conduct offence.

Following a half dozen replays of the incident, Jones chose to display a yellow card instead of sending Brooks out, much to the dismay of Chelsea players and spectators at Stamford Bridge. Brooks had appeared to be on the verge of being sent off.

After a collision with Cucurella that did not result in a full VAR check, Brooks needed medical attention early on in the game. Cucurella was the player who received the collision. After Moises Caicedo had brought down Antoine Semenyo early in the second half, Justin Kluivert scored a penalty kick to tie the game. Cole Palmer had placed Chelsea ahead, but Kluivert equalised the score from the penalty spot. Then, in the 68th minute, Semenyo scored the goal that put the Cherries ahead.

It is not the first time that Cucurella’s hairstyle has been at the centre of a dramatic situation; the event that occurred between Brooks and Cucurella is only one example. Additionally, Jack Stephens, a defender for Southampton, was sent off for tugging the Spaniard’s hair that occurred one month ago.

At the moment, the Premier League issued a statement that explained the situation as follows: “38′ VAR OVERTURN The video assistant referee suggested that Jack Stephens undergo an on-field investigation for alleged aggressive conduct. The referee then showed a red card to the player.

Cristian Romero, a prominent player for Tottenham, was also involved in a contentious incident with Cucurella in the year 2022. This judgement was criticised by the Chelsea player, who stated that the Argentine was not subject to any more penalty.

According to what he said, “It is too obvious to me in the game, on the battlefield.” Neither the video nor the television showed it to me. One mistake was made by the referee or the video assistant referee, but I believe it is quite evident.

In some cases, the referees make sound choices, but in other cases, they do not. On my end, this is not an issue. Perhaps we need to put in more effort to ensure that we do not let up this goal in the final minute.

The video assistant referee was seen in the stadium looking for a red card. It is crystal apparent to me. In this moment, I don’t know what happened.”
