DONE DEAL: Five-Star Phenom Bruce Branch III Shocks College Basketball World, Commits to BYU

PROVO, Utah — The landscape of college basketball recruitment has officially shifted toward the Rockies. In a move that has stunned analysts and blue-blood programs alike, Bruce Branch III, the consensus five-star small forward and top-10 national prospect, has officially committed to the BYU Cougars.

Making the announcement live on ESPN’s NBA Today, an emotional Branch chose BYU over powerhouse finalists like USC, Kansas, and Arizona. The commitment marks another massive victory for head coach Kevin Young, who is rapidly transforming Provo into a premier NBA developmental hub.

The “Kevin Young Effect”

Since taking the reins, Coach Young has leveraged his extensive NBA coaching pedigree to land three of the highest-rated recruits in program history. Branch follows in the footsteps of AJ Dybantsa (the projected No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft) and Egor Demin, proving that BYU’s “NBA-style” system is the new gold standard for elite prospects.

“I went on my visit and saw that from the head coach down to the analytics staff, everyone has NBA experience,” Branch noted during his announcement. “If the goal is the league, there isn’t a better place to be right now.”

Scouting Report: What BYU is Getting

Branch, a 6’7″ wing out of the famed Prolific Prep, is widely regarded as one of the most polished scorers in the 2026 class. Originally the top-ranked player in the 2027 cycle, his reclassification to 2026 hasn’t slowed his momentum.

Elite Shooting: He knocked down nearly 40% of his three-pointers on high volume during his final high school season.

Versatility: With a massive wingspan and guard-like handles, he can exploit mismatches in the post or create his own shot on the perimeter.

Defensive Upside: His length and lateral quickness make him a projected “lockdown” defender at the collegiate level.

BYU’s Growing 2026 Super-Class

With Branch’s commitment, BYU’s 2026 class is now knocking on the door of a top-5 national ranking. Branch joins a group of incoming talent designed to keep the Cougars competitive in the grueling Big 12 Conference.
