BREAKING: The Premier League compelled to provide a VAR statement following the disallowance of an Arsenal goal, after Merino believed he had scored to make it 3-2 for the Gunners with an impressive strike.

Arsenal endured a frustrating 2-2 stalemate against Aston Villa on Saturday night.

Kai Havertz believed he had secured victory for Arsenal in the last moments of the match.

Ollie Watkins has unexpectedly indicated that Arsenal were unjustly penalised when their third goal was disallowed due to a handball in Saturday’s exhilarating 2-2 draw.

The Gunners initially led with a goal from Gabriel Martinelli, followed by Kai Havertz extending the advantage shortly after halftime. However, Youri Tielemans and Watkins scored to equalise the match.

On the same day, Liverpool secured a late victory against Brentford, widening the gap at the top of the league, while Aston Villa once more thwarted Arsenal at the Emirates.

Nevertheless, as the Gunners sought the crucial fifth goal, Havertz believed he had increased his score when Mikel Merino’s shot bounced off him in the last moments of the contest.

Following a VAR review, it was determined that the ball had made contact with the German forward’s arm, rather than his torso as Havertz had claimed, resulting in a 2-2 draw with the points distributed equally.

Following the game, Watkins said Sky that he was ‘uncertain’ whether the correct decision was made, even though it favoured his team.

Ollie Watkins salvaged a point for Aston Villa but implied that Arsenal was unjustly treated.

The Gunners experienced a tough night, once more relinquishing points in the title battle.

“Upon reviewing it, I am uncertain; it appears to have favoured us. Had it been against me, I believe I would feel disheartened,” he stated to Sky Sports. “From that perspective, I am uncertain, but that is the purpose of VAR.”

We obtained the goal from Youri, advanced up the pitch, and he nearly scored once more. We gained significant momentum and confidence, which presented opportunities during the transition.

We recognised their man-to-man marking, with Gabriel assigned to me and Partey to Jacob, while we also maintained a man-to-man defence. There were several instances in the first half where I should have performed better.

“Opportunities were present, and Arsenal consistently exhibited a degree of vulnerability.”

The Gunners suffered a disappointing outcome, having secured only one victory in their last five matches across all competitions.

A draw against Brighton was succeeded by consecutive home losses in cup competitions to Newcastle and Manchester United, with the Villa draw occurring after a midweek victory in the north London derby.

Havertz seemed to believe he had secured a crucial victory for his team late in the match, celebrating his deflected goal before it was annulled by VAR.

Although Havertz exhibited uncertainty, Paul Merson in the Sky Sports studio required less persuasion on the authenticity of the “goal.”

It is astonishing that Havertz has absconded. It struck his hand, and he fled. The former Arsenal icon stated, “I can comprehend that in the Championship, one can evade scrutiny due to the absence of VAR.”

Lee Hendrie appeared equally sceptical of Havertz’s reply: ‘As a player, you must be aware,’ he stated.

Merson remarked, “It is not a close contest!”

Following the heartbreak of Saturday’s stalemate before their home supporters, Arsenal must regroup forward to their midweek match against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Villa will anticipate a journey to Monaco on Tuesday, aiming to enhance their prospects of qualifying for the subsequent round of Europe’s premier championship.
