Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has stated he feels as like he is letting his players, chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox down given the club’s continuous troubles.

United suffered a fifth defeat in their last eight matches on Sunday afternoon, losing 3-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, meaning Amorim has now lost seven of his first 15 games in charge.

It marked the Reds’ fourth defeat in their previous six Premier League matches and their fourth lose in their last five outings at Old Trafford, meaning plenty of pressure is resting on tonight’s Europa League meeting with Rangers.

DONE DEAL: A £143 million star joins Manchester United on a seven-year contract, becoming the club’s first January transfer acquisition.

In his post-match press conference on Sunday, Amorim embraced his inner Ralf Rangnick by calling his team “possibly the worst in the club’s history.” However, he has since indicated that admitting that was a mistake. The United head coach has since made an effort to provide more context for that admission, claiming that his remarks were a reflection of his feelings at the moment of the final whistle.

“I always have the same passion,” Amorim said to TNT Sports. Although I am aware that Manchester United is the biggest club in the world, I remember feeling the same way when I first started playing in the third division.

It is about me and how I feel, not about the other people. I will mention a few things that you [the media] can utilise based on how you feel. It is really difficult for me to live with the thought that I am disappointing my players, Omar, and Jason.

I am more concerned with myself than with other people because I know that tomorrow no one will remember me. Therefore, it is not about me or what other people think of me; that will happen in two weeks. All I can think about is how I feel and how I need to perform my duties.

“I must believe that I am not letting people down. That is more important than external pressure. Unbelievably, it is always the same for me because I never read anything.

“It’s more about the pressure I’m under; I don’t like to lose, and it’s really difficult to deal with losing so frequently.”
