On Friday night, Udinese became the latest Italian club to be involved in a controversy regarding a penalty kick. The player was substituted immediately after scoring his penalty kick, which led to the controversy.

Ademola Lookman was publicly criticised by manager Gian Piero Gasperini on Tuesday for missing a penalty during the Champions League knockout play-off second leg loss to Club Brugge. The loss was the second leg of the Champions League knockout season.

Lookman had already scored in open play when he grabbed the ball, but after Gasperini’s strong words, the Nigerian international issued a statement of his own and claimed that he was given permission by the designated penalty taker to assume duties. Lookman asserted that he had been given permission to take over duties.

In spite of this, Udinese, the Italian club that Atalanta competes with, has managed to outdo them in terms of penalty kicks.

Alexis Sanchez is currently playing for Udine for the second time. On Friday night, the Udine team travelled to Lecce and came away with a narrow 1-0 victory. This victory moved them just one point behind Roma, who are currently in ninth place.

The only goal of the match was scored by Lorenza Lucca from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, but Kosta Runjaic took him off the pitch almost immediately after the goal was scored.

During a series of peculiar and icy events, Lucca took the penalty kick away from Florian Thauvin, who was the captain and taker of the team, and refused to return the ball to the former Newcastle player.

The entire team was on Thauvin’s side and made an effort to take the ball away from him. An enraged Jaka Bijol became aggressive and grabbed his shirt in an attempt to get the ball away from him.

Oumar Solet was also unsuccessful in his attempt to take the ball away from Lucca, and he went on to score his tenth goal of the season in a manner that was especially emphatic.

On the other hand, nobody celebrated with the 24-year-old player, and just four minutes later, he was replaced by Iker Bravo.

The manager of Udinese is fuming over the disrespect.
With regard to the actions taken by the Lucca, Runjaic was questioned after the game and referred to them as a “unilateral decision.” In the following statement, he defended his decision to substitute Lucca by stating that he did not “respect the rules” or his teammates.

In addition, he stated that they would discuss the situation in the locker rooms, but he emphasised that the team would still take pleasure in the victory, which was extremely important.

“We have a clear hierarchy; Thauvin is our first-choice penalty taker,” according to his statement to DAZN.

“The length of this episode was excessive. Lucca made a decision that was solely his own, and I made the decision to remove him from the situation. In the history of football, occurrences similar to this one have occurred on multiple occasions. In my opinion, the decision to replace him was the correct one. Although we will talk about it in the locker room, it is easier to win when things are going well.

Because I have a strong aversion to players who do not respect the rules or their teammates, I decided to take this action. Although the team is the most important thing in the world, let’s not make this a more significant problem than it already is. Let’s continue to concentrate on the next match while we take pleasure in the victory.

Lucca, a former forward for both Ajax and Palermo, has not yet posted a comment regarding the penalty chaos.
