Rio Ferdinand responds to being called ‘clown’ by Jamie Carragher as AFCON row turns personal

Rio Ferdinand, a legend of Manchester United, has responded to Jamie Carragher, a former rival of his, by calling him a clown for his response to Carragher’s comments about the Africa Cup of Nations. Carragher’s comments were made with reference to the African Cup of Nations.
Mohamed Salah moved Liverpool closer to winning the Premier League title this season by scoring and assisting on a goal during the massive victory over Manchester City. This victory brought Liverpool one step closer to tying for the title.
After the match, Carragher stated that the winger would be hampered by the fact that he is unable to win a major international trophy with Egypt. The winger has been an essential part of Liverpool’s success this season and has emerged as a clear favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
A fellow pundit named Ferdinand was extremely critical of the comments made by the Liverpool legend, and now Carragher has responded to Ferdinand’s criticism.
The comments that Carragher made after Liverpool’s victory over City gave the impression that he was dismissing the Africa Cup of Nations as a major tournament. This resulted in a significant amount of backlash posted on the internet from fans as well as his peers.
“I think [what he said] is representative of most of the people out there, but I don’t think that’s right,” the United legend said in her criticism of Carragher, which was broadcast on the most recent episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents. It’s a way of thinking that leads to ignorance.
It is true that it does not receive the same level of support in terms of resources as the Euros, but this does not mean that you should devalue it. It ought to be shown more respect than it currently is.
On top of that, Ferdinand continued, “I comprehend what Jamie is expressing, but I do not concur with it.” That is all the fault of the majority, and it is not acceptable. In what he is saying, Jamie is absolutely correct. If Salah were to win the African Cup of Nations, it would not have any impact on anyone’s decision to vote for the Ballon d’Or, which is completely unacceptable.
Following the backlash that he received for his comments, Carragher took to social media to provide a more in-depth explanation of his thought process. He then went on to specifically address Ferdinand’s perspective by commenting on a clip of the podcast that was recently uploaded to Instagram.
Carragher wrote, “I didn’t say that you clown,” and he was correct.
“Stop playing to the gallery like you always do.”
However, Ferdinand was not willing to let his competitor’s accusations fly without also taking a little jab in his own direction, and he responded by saying, “You’ve had a bad couple of weeks… There was Pep and Lewis Skelly.
The controversy that has surrounded Carragher’s comments regarding the African Cup of Nations comes just a few days after Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, criticised Carragher for his assertion that star striker Erling Haaland was afraid of facing Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger in the Champions League midweek encounter.
Earlier in the month, the former Liverpool defender was also subjected to criticism after he criticised Myles Lewis-Skelly, a defender for Arsenal, for imitating Haaland’s signature goal celebration during the 5-1 victory at the Emirates.
