Arsenal handed huge blow as Bayern Munich announce UEFA Champions League squad
Thomas Tuchel has received a number of advantages prior to his quarterfinal match at Emirates
This week, Arsenal and Bayern Munich will play in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. This is the first time the Gunners have advanced this far in the competition since 2010–11, and as luck would have it, they face a team they are familiar with in Europe’s top competition.
In addition, former Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane will make a comeback to take on a known opponent in this matchup. Meanwhile, 28-year-old Serge Gnabry will reunite with Mikel Arteta at Emirates after the latter played alongside him when he joined the team in 2012 as a 16-year-old.
Unlike their situation this time last year, Arsenal has a relatively low number of injuries to worry about. As he continues to heal from his ACL surgery, Jurrien Timber is the only player still out for the duration, and it doesn’t seem likely that he will play again this season.
Recently, Bukayo Saka was sidelined for the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Luton, but he made a comeback to the starting lineup when his team traveled to the Amex Stadium to play Brighton. The English international, who had been dealing with muscular problems during the week, was back to his usual strong self and gave his team a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick. Right now, Gabriel is the only other thing to be concerned about. Danny Welbeck attempted to block a clearance and was followed through, causing the Brazilian international to go down. Still, he managed to finish the entire ninety minutes of action.
Although Thomas Tuchel’s team has been severely depleted in recent weeks, they should be happy to welcome back a number of stars, including French winger Kingsley Coman and seasoned goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Leroy Sane, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Coman, Neuer, and Noussair Mazraoui were all absent from Bayern’s 3-2 loss to Heidenheim on Saturday, but they have all rejoined the team and are scheduled to travel to North London ahead of tomorrow’s match.
Since Neuer has been sidelined for the last two games due to a torn muscle in his left adductor, Sven Ulreich has filled in as goalkeeper. However, it is unclear if Ulreich will start in goal for Tuchel’s team on Tuesday.
The entire traveling team consists of: Manuel Neuer, Daniel Peretz, Sven Ulreich, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim, Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Harry Kane, Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Eric Dier, Bryan Zaragoza, Alphonso Davies, Guerreiro, Thomas Muller, Konrad Laimer, Mathys Tel, Noussair Mazraoui, Jamal Musiala, Eleksandar Pavlovic
