Neymar named the five players who had more technical skill than him including forgotten Liverpool star

When Neymar Junior was asked to name five players more technically gifted than himself, he named a forgotten Liverpool star.

Neymar was one of the world’s best players for a few years; he added traditional Brazilian flair to the game at a time when attackers have less leeway than in the past.

After earning his starting position at Santos, the attacker spent his best years at Barcelona, where he was a formidable player on the field with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Following his two-time South American Footballer of the Year award, the world-record £200 million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 took place.

He showed flashes of brilliance in the French capital, but was unable to deliver the Champions League, the Ligue 1 club’s top prize.

Neymar signed a contract worth an estimated £129.4 million a year with Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal last year, taking on a new challenge in the Middle East.

He hasn’t played for Brazil since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in October, though.

Neymar has played with some incredible football players throughout the years, so when Oh My Goal asked him to list five players who were technically better than him back in 2021, he came up with a stellar response.

“I don’t know if I can answer that, with all the humility in the world I consider myself one of the most technical players in football today,” Neymar stated.

With Neymar saying that everyone “wants to play with him,” it should come as no surprise that former teammate Messi was first on the list.

Eden Hazard, whose Real Madrid contract was terminated in October, announced his retirement from professional football, ranking second on Neymar’s list of the best five choices.

Playmaker Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City, who is regarded as one of the best players to have played in the Premier League, was also included.

Thiago Alcantara, a forgotten midfield player for Liverpool, and Marco Verratti, a former teammate at PSG, were also mentioned.

After leaving Bayern Munich in 2020, Thiago spent four years at Anfield dealing with injuries.

The Spanish midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and he has played just five minutes of football for Liverpool this season.
