Where Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Man City & Nottingham Forest sit in Premier League table with no VAR

There are just two games left between Liverpool and Everton before the end of another Premier League season.

There won’t be much drama for either Merseyside club as the Premier League season approaches its final weeks. Everton’s impressive run of play has kept them out of the relegation zone and guaranteed them a spot in the top flight for another season.

Liverpool is assured of finishing in at least third place and has qualified for the Champions League. Though it would take a miracle to overcome Manchester City or Arsenal at this late point, the Reds can still win the title mathematically. Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 on Sunday afternoon, providing some relief after a difficult run of results. On Friday night, the Toffees drew 1-1 at Luton Town.

Both of the city’s Premier League teams have experienced controversy this season; Everton was given a two-point deduction, while Liverpool faced some highly-profile decisions. Most notably, VAR disallowed a goal by Luis Diaz against Tottenham Hotspur, and the PGMOL later acknowledged that a serious human error had occurred in ruling the strike out. PGMOL chief Howard Webb acknowledged later in the season that in the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield, the Reds should have been given a penalty.

This season, VAR has affected both Merseyside clubs. Here, we examine the most recent Premier League table without VAR. We compute the table by using all of the VAR decisions that determine the outcome of the game and applying the ruling from the on-field referee. Look down below.

1. Sheffield United

Points without VAR: 13 (Difference -4)

2. Luton Town

Points without VAR: 25 (Difference -1)
