Benjamin Sesko to be Denied His Unusual ‘Dream’ Manchester United Shirt Number

Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig in Germany is being courted by Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but if the Serbian shooter signs with the team this summer, he will not be able to don his “dream number.”

The Red Devils have already strengthened their assault after a disastrous season in which they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final and finished 15th in the Premier League standings. Both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have been signed.

Sesko’s transfer to Old Trafford is “within sight” of being finalised, according to talkSPORT. According to the report, Amorim has named Sesko, 22, their top center-forward target. Ollie Watkins’ potential transfer is currently on hold.

Amorim and his team are still searching for a new number nine, despite Rasmus Hojlund’s declaration after a convincing 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in preseason that he wants to remain at the Theatre of Dreams past the summer.

13 players – including Wes Brown and John O’Shea have worn it at Old Trafford

Sesko is drawn to the opportunity to bring the 13-time Premier League champions back to life, even though Eddie Howe of Newcastle United is interested. As of this writing, the signs are good, but once he gets there, things could take a little turn for the worse.

In reference to his ideal squad number. The 2003-born talisman advanced through the ranks in his own country, making an impression while captaining NK Domzale’s Under-17 team, before emerging as one of the most sought-after young strikers in world football.

He joined RB Salzburg in the summer of 2019 at the age of 16, and he was moved right away to the club’s youth divisions to hone his skills. He eventually received a promotion to senior proceedings and, in an uncommon move, was assigned the No. 30.

When he traded RB Salzburg for RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, he carried on that pattern. That number would normally be accessible due to its uniqueness, but teenage defender Diego Leon was assigned it when he arrived earlier this summer.

Over the years, 13 players for the Premier League club have worn the number, including Leon, the current owner. Among the notable wearers are John O’Shea from 2000–01 to 2001–02 and Wes Brown from 1998–99.

Sesko has worn No. 25 and No. 11 on the international scene, although both are currently out of style and are worn by Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte, respectively. He also wore the number 21, which Antony presently wears, in the early days of his career.

The Slovenian may get an opportunity as the Brazilian is expected to depart this summer. He wore the number 29 for RB Salzburg’s U19 team, and if he takes on a new challenge at Old Trafford this summer, it might be his last remaining familiar option.
