Ex-Real Madrid & Everton Man Royston Drenthe Rushed to Hospital After Suffering Stroke
Royston Drenthe, a former player for Real Madrid and Everton, was taken to the hospital after suffering a stroke.
According to reports, the 38-year-old became ill on Friday and was taken to the emergency hospital for immediate medical attention. The revelation has been verified on social media by his club, FC De Rebellen, a Dutch football team composed of seasoned players.
Physicians Hope for “Smooth Recovery” for Drenthe.
Drenthe’s current status has not been disclosed in detail, but according to FC De Rebellen’s Instagram post, he is currently “being taken good care of.” The former Everton star’s doctors expressed optimism that he would have a “smooth recovery” and urged everyone to respect his family’s privacy.
According to the club, Royston Drenthe had a brain attack on Friday. “Drenthe is in good hands and receiving good care right now. Everyone concerned, including the squad, is hoping for a speedy recovery.
“Royston’s family is asking for peace and privacy during this period, so they can provide him with the support and space he needs for his recovery.”

Drenthe gained fame at Feyenoord in the early 2000s, but Real Madrid acquired him because of his skill. He won a La Liga title and made 65 games for Los Blancos over two years, playing both left-wing and left-back.
However, Drenthe went on loan for several seasons after losing his spot at the Santiago Bernabeu. He made 27 appearances and scored four goals at Goodison Park during the 2011–12 season while playing for Everton.
After leaving Madrid in 2012, the Dutchman failed to live up to the high standards that many had set for him. A friend and former Netherlands teammate Ryan Babel referred to Drenthe as “the tenant from hell” after he constructed a nightclub inside the house without permission, and Tim Howard disclosed that Drenthe once sneaked into the Everton training ground to use the hot tub with friends.
Following brief experiences at several different clubs, such as Sheffield Wednesday and Reading, Drenthe took a lengthy break in 2016 at the age of 29 to focus on his rap career. Two years later, he resumed playing football, but after losing £3.2 million, he filed for bankruptcy in 2020.
In 2022, at the age of 35, Drenthe finally gave up football. Since then, he has served as a commentator for both Dutch and Spanish television. He previously disclosed that he had chosen to work as a freelance healthcare professional in the Netherlands.
