Sky reporter reveals new Sheffield Wednesday issue: Dejphon Chansiri’s departure hasn’t changed the problem.

There may be a further blow on the horizon for Sheffield Wednesday players and staff, with no assurance of wages being paid on time in October as payday approaches.

The atmosphere around the Owls fanbase has been rejuvinated since the news broke on Friday that maligned owner Dejphon Chansiri had placed both the club and Sheffield 3 – the company that owns Hillsborough Stadium – in the hands of administrators Begbies Traynor, and with a lifelong fan in Kris Wigfield among the team now in control of their destiny, there has been nothing but good news coming out of the club.

From Chansiri’s name being ripped out of the seats in the North Stand to fans spending a lot of money on merchandise, to numerous parties registering their interest in the club and ticket discounts in place to try to get fans back to Hillsborough on a regular basis, everything has been positive – but there could be a twist around the corner.

Sheffield Wednesday’s salary update could be terrible news for players and staff.

Even if the administrators have restored some optimism among Sheffield Wednesday fans, they are there to do a job – to achieve the best deal for the club in the future while also ensuring that the club can continue to operate in the interim.

Fans have spent a lot of money in recent days to help the team, but it may not be enough to pay all of the players’ and staff’s wages on time by the end of October.

According to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett, the monthly salary of Wednesday staff may not arrive by Friday, implying that six of the previous eight months would have finished without complete payment for players, backroom staff, and club workers.

Dorsett has also stated that the administrators are working hard to “maximise funds” in order to get everyone paid on time, which is viewed as a priority business decision, so it remains to be seen whether they all go through on time, despite the fact that significant money has been invested in the club within the last five days by the club’s fanbase.

Sheffield Wednesday If salaries are not paid, the feel-good component may decrease.

The worry of wages not being paid on time for the month of October demonstrates that the new temporary arrangements at Sheffield Wednesday may not be all that great, with the legacy of Dejphon Chansiri’s 10-year custodianship of the club looming over them like a cloud.

Five of the last seven months have seen players and staff concerned about their wage packets, and many may have assumed that with the money invested around the club in recent days, this fear would evaporate.

However, there are still some senior Wednesday players earning what you’d expect to be decent pay, and they must be paid alongside members of staff in the football department and elsewhere across the club, which will be costly.

Administration rarely provides as much of a positive vibe as it has for Sheffield Wednesday, given the fans’ disdain for Chansiri and his conduct, but that sentiment may not last if the same payment issues arise.
