Sheffield Wednesday news: Lineker and Shearer agree; prospective buyer update; Rangers trade link.
The latest Sheffield Wednesday news comes amid a hopeful possible buyer update.
Many supporters believe they have regained control of their club, but the fight to restore Sheffield Wednesday is far from over. That being said, there may be more light at the end of the tunnel.
The Owls’ administrators, who are now managing the club’s sale, have already announced publicly that numerous parties are interested in making a purchase and that the due diligence process has commenced.
One name that stands out above the rest is US billionaire John McEvoy, and sources tell The Star that the entertainment magnate has been inquiring about the possibility of buying Sheffield Wednesday.
It is unclear whether McEvoy intends to begin a formal procedure, but there are ‘four or five’ potential interested parties. According to The Star, anyone interested in purchasing Wednesday is being requested by Begbies Traynor to provide confirmation of eight-figure upfront funds in order to exclude ‘time-wasters and scam artists’.
This is only one of several developments on Wednesday, both in terms of the ongoing ownership process and future transfer opportunities.
Lineker and Shearer sympathise with Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

The enthusiasm around Hillsborough has been evident over the past week, as evidenced by the large crowd of 27,261 who watched the 2-1 defeat at home to Oxford United last Saturday.
It’s an astounding turnaround in mood considering the club was recently placed into administration and received a 12-point deduction as a result, putting them 16 points from safety.
But that is as strong a sign as any of owner Dejphon Chansiri’s tremendous unpopularity, which is slowly eroding his grip over the club.
Nonetheless, former Match of the Day host Gary Lineker disagrees with the idea that clubs entering administration should incur such a significant points loss, accusing the EFL of ‘kicking the club when it’s down’.
“They’ve clearly gone into administration, and hopefully they’ll be able to sort everything out. But they received a 12-point penalty and are now on -6,” remarked former England star Lineker.
“I understand why clubs must suffer repercussions, but I think it’s like kicking a club when it’s at its lowest point. We’ve had this with other teams, and it simply doesn’t feel right. It’s almost as if the fans accept the penalty.”
Alan Shearer, another former Three Lions striker, also weighed in, sympathizing with the Wednesday fans who have been put under unneeded strain.
“It’s through no fault of their own, the fans, because they are the constant; they are the ones who are always going to be there,” she added.
“But, as horrible as it has been, and it has been horrific for them, I detect some relief. They may have to suffer a little more, but I believe they have reclaimed their club.
“I understand they are under administration, but hopefully someone will step in and buy the club. They are likely to be demoted, so there will be some additional hardship before things improve.
“Even removing the lettering from the stand bearing his name gets him kicked out of the club. At the very least, they may start over and try to look forward, no matter how difficult things will be.
Lineker continued, “Hopefully, they can find someone who has the club’s best interests at heart to lead them forward.” Good luck, Owls.”
Sheffield Wednesday employees set to be paid on time.
Being paid in whole and on time has been a challenge for Wednesday players and staff in previous years, but the situation appears to be improving.
According to Sky Sports, Begbies Traynor is ‘confident’ that they will be able to pay wages on time for the October 31st pay day, thanks in large part to improved ticket sales versus Oxford, as well as other revenue streams.
The Wednesday squad has been paid late on multiple occasions during the last six months under Chansiri’s management, with additional penalties looming in the near future.
However, in the short term, all Hillsborough employees may be assured that their wages will be deposited into their bank accounts on Friday morning.
Danny Rohl will endorse Rangers’ Bailey Cadamarteri raid.

Danny Rohl, the former Wednesday manager, has begun to turn things around at Rangers, winning his first two Scottish Premiership matches after suffering a 3-0 setback in the Europa League on his debut against Brann.
Now, he appears to be targeting a familiar face in Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri.
The 20-year-old earned his Hillsborough debut under the German’s supervision, and he has six goals and an assist in 39 senior games for the Owls, as well as eight goals on loan at Lincoln City in 2024/25.
According to Sportsboom, Rohl is hoping to take advantage of his old club’s financial difficulties to negotiate a deal for Cadamarteri as part of his bid to restore Ibrox giants Rangers to prominence in Scotland.
