32-goal Arsenal star talks about a possible transfer at the Manchester United training facility – report
Chido Obi-Martin, an academy graduate of Arsenal, paid a visit to the Carrington training facility earlier this week to talk about a possible summer transfer to Manchester United, according to Academy Scoop.
The Academy Scoop is a reliable source of news and commentary on youth football transfers, specialising in coverage of Man United’s academy.
Despite having positive conversations with Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, they have stated on the social networking platform X (previously known as Twitter) that Obi-Martin may be heading to the Old Trafford club in the upcoming weeks.
Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are also interested in the 16-year-old, and the Gunners have made him an enhanced contract offer to retain him at the North London team.
He hasn’t yet agreed to Arsenal’s scholarship terms, though, and it appears that he may head to Manchester United.
The Red Devils are now trying to entice Obi-Martin to join them after he finished the previous season with 32 goals in 19 games for the Gunners under-18s and 11 goals in 15 outings for the Denmark under-17s.
The adolescent wonder who scores goals wants a surefire route to playing in the first squad and isn’t sure Arsenal can provide it.
According to Football Association regulations, Obi-Martin cannot sign a professional contract in England until he turns 17 in November; but, in Germany, he can sign a contract as early as 16.
He will stay on schoolboy terms if he moves to Manchester United, and Arsenal will be compensated if that occurs.
The Gunners youngster may be persuaded to agree to a move if manager Erik ten Hag offers teenage sensations Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo opportunities. It remains to be seen whether a quicker pathway to first-team football is guaranteed at the Old Trafford club.
