On Wednesday, Manchester United will play their return match against Real Betis. In their opening match of the team’s preseason tour of the United States, the Red Devils lost 2-1 at Arsenal; Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli gave the Gunners the advantage after Rasmus Hojlund had opened the score.

Although Erik ten Hag would have been disappointed that both Hojlund and Leny Yoro, who recently signed for £52 million, suffered injuries during the game, it was a successful exercise for United. Hojlund hobbled off with a hamstring injury just six minutes after scoring, and Yoro was replaced before halftime due to a muscular ailment.

“Of course, it is too short [to know about their injuries], and we have to wait over 24 hours, then hopefully we will know more,” Ten Hag stated in a post-game statement. We exercised caution, particularly with Leny [Yoro], who participated in only half of the [training] sessions. He must speak up, but let’s remain upbeat and watch what transpires.

Now, both players might be unable to participate against Betis. Should neither feature materialize—which could happen—Ten Hag will have to alter his starting lineup by at least two spots.

At the very least, the Dutchman will have access to first-choice custodian Andre Onana, who has started in every preseason game thus far. While Diogo Dalot is expected to rejoin the United team eventually following his participation at Euro 2024, Aaron Wan-Bissaka may be able to maintain his position at right back.

Yoro and Harry Maguire started the match against Betis, and the England international is anticipated to stick with his starting spot when Victor Lindelof or Jonny Evans enters the back four. Tyrell Malacia’s injury and Luke Shaw’s lack of training time could mean that Harry Amass, who started against Arsenal, gets the start again.

Shifting to midfield, Casemiro and rookie Toby Collyer began the loss against Arsenal. This is expected to be the starting midfield against Betis, however it wouldn’t be shocking to see Scott McTominay or Christian Eriksen enter the game. Both players participated in the Gunners game as substitutes.

Mason Mount, who started at No. 10 in their most recent game, is comparable. He was substituted off against Arsenal at halftime, along with a number of other players, but he might get another opportunity to shine. If healthy, Amad and Marcus Rashford might start out wide again with Antony pressing.

There will undoubtedly be a change up front, with Hojlund probably losing out. Ethan Wheatley replaced Hannibal Mejbri, who had replaced the Danish international against Arsenal, at halftime. Ten Hag might have given Wheatley an opportunity to shine against Betis.

Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Amass; Casemiro, Collyer; Antony, Mount, Rashford; Wheatley is one possible lineup for United against Betis.
