For many footballers, moving to Manchester United is a childhood goal; but, as careers progress, that dream inevitably fades for the vast majority of them.

Wout Weghorst had to deal with the reality of being transferred on loan from Burnley to Besiktas, even though it doesn’t exactly announce that a player is headed to Old Trafford.

He was having a terrific time with the Besiktas fans and was doing well on his loan when Manchester United showed interest in him.

He didn’t mind, though, offending those fans by forcing through the cancellation of his loan and signing a short-term contract to join the Premier League team.

Weghorst was on loan at Hoffenheim for the entire previous season when the deal was not finalised. He hinted at a possible summer return to the Netherlands and a permanent move to Ajax when chatting with Kicker.

Weghorst was certainly asked about his Manchester United experience during the conversation, and it’s evident that he’s still excited about it.

Big striker: “An absolute world club, another dream come true,” according to Kicker. Even though I didn’t score many goals, it was nonetheless successful. However, we won the League Cup and placed third. I have pleasant memories of these six months.
