Craig Shakespeare, the former manager of Leicester, passed away at the age of 60.
Shakespeare served in a variety of capacities as a coach, but his most memorable position was that of Claudio Ranieri’s assistant when the Foxes unexpectedly won the Premier League in 2016.

After Ranieri was fired in 2017, he was given the primary position, although he didn’t last more than a season before losing it as well.

He also served as a coach at Watford, Aston Villa, Norwich, Everton, and Hull. In addition, he served as Sam Allardyce’s deputy during his brief stint as England’s manager.

Shakespeare had a cancer diagnosis the previous year.

The League Managers’ Association released a statement from Craig Shakespeare’s family, saying, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Shakespeare, ‘Shakey’.””This morning, in the company of his loved ones, Craig departed quietly from his home.

“To us, his family, he will always be first and foremost a loving and cherished husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, even if the family is incredibly proud of his accomplishments in football as a player and coach.

We would like to request privacy at this extremely trying time as we attempt to process and grieve the loss of a very special individual. The loss is terrible to all of us.

“The family would like to thank and acknowledge the many prayers and good wishes sent during the past few difficult months, many of which we were unable to respond to but all meant a lot to Craig and the family.”

Martin O’Neill, chairman of the LMA, praised Shakespeare’s accomplishments.

“Craig’s impact on the people he worked with was often spoken about by players, coaches and managers in the game,” according to him.

“People felt valued and cared for by Craig not only because of his extensive coaching and football expertise but also because of his warm demeanour and genuine concern for their growth and success.

“His contribution to his clubs’ victories should be honoured, particularly at Leicester City, where fans justifiably view Craig as a mainstay who was instrumental in both that incredible Premier League winning season and many other amazing moments throughout his three stints there.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Craig’s family and loved ones at this awfully sad time.”
