Arsenal
‘Deal completed’ – Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have been outbid by a Premier League competitor in a £34 million trade.
A player who graduated from Arsenal’s youth academy has been sold to a competitor in the Premier League.
Arsenal star Emile Smith-Rowe was signed by Fulham, who are rivals of Crystal Palace and Newcastle United in the Premier League. Fulham took the lead in the transfer process.
After a breakthrough in discussions this week, the Cottagers have officially declared that they have acquired the midfielder from the Gunners. The sum is expected to be somewhere around £34 million. It is common knowledge that Smith-Rowe travelled back to London from Arsenal’s pre-season camp in the United States in order to undergo a medical examination.
This move is a major one for the 24-year-old player, who has been with Arsenal since the year 2010, when he was just ten years old back then. Despite the fact that Smith-Rowe had a difficult time finding playing time in recent seasons, he went on to make 115 appearances for the club’s first football squad.
It came to light that the North London club was willing to make a profit off of the player this summer, despite the fact that he still had two more years left on his contract. Regarding the player’s services, there was a significant amount of interest from Premier League clubs.
Following the departure of their own offensive midfielder Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, Crystal Palace appeared to be the team that was most likely to fight Fulham for the transfer. In addition, Eberechi Eze has been connected with a departure, and The Guardian claimed in July that Oliver Glasner’s team had entered the transfer race, with Fulham’s offer being the catalyst for their entry into the competition.
Another team that has been mentioned in connection with Smith-Rowe for a considerable amount of time is Newcastle United.
This week, NewastleWorld reported that the player had ‘was monitored’ by the Magpies over the course of the previous year, in anticipation of a suggested departure from the club.
There were only thirteen appearances in the top division for Smith-Rowe during the previous season, and he will undoubtedly be hoping to get more playing time under Marco Silva at Fulham. The following is what he had to say about his decision to join the Cottagers: “I’m finally here, so I’m really happy for me and my family – it’s a good moment.” I’m incredibly excited, and all I wanted to do was get here as quickly as I could so that I could participate in the activities with my colleagues.
After listening to the project, having a conversation with the Manager, and observing the players that we already have here, I believe that this project is going to be an interesting one for me, and it will undoubtedly be the ideal next step for my career going ahead.
In addition, Fulham Sporting Director Tony Khan provided the following statement: “I am overjoyed to announce the arrival of Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham Football Club! It gives us great pleasure to announce that we have signed such a fantastic young player, and we are looking forward to Emile becoming a member of the team in Portugal as we continue to get ready for the upcoming season! Give it a go, Fulham!
