Liverpool’s roster is bruised and broken, but they continue to win games. Jürgen Klopp’s greatest challenge to date will come this afternoon at Anfield as he attempts to continue this defiance of the injury list against the defending champion Manchester City.

In the last week or so, things at Liverpool have improved a little bit thanks to the return of Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Núñez. Both have an opportunity to play right away today. In the meantime, Mohamed Salah, who undoubtedly represents a significant boost, will play after coming off the bench in midweek.

There are still at least nine injuries on the list, though. Depending on how an injury scare involving Ibrahima Konaté plays out, it might be in double figures. According to the most recent update, Klopp was still unsure whether he would be available after his performance against Sparta Prague on Thursday.

Manchester City is also dealing with a few other small issues. Due to a finger injury, Matheus Nunes is doubtful, and Pep Guardiola may find it difficult to manage Jack Grealish and Jérémy Doku’s fitness race because they both play the same position.

However, Klopp has undoubtedly suffered more. The most recent Liverpool injury news is broken down by position here, with at least one player absent from each area of the field.

Goalkeepers Alisson’s absence is still in effect. Many people consider the goalie to be the best in the world, and he hasn’t played since the early-February loss to Arsenal. He is recovering from a hamstring strain.

Thankfully, the reports that Caoimhín Kelleher had sustained a training injury earlier this week turned out to be unfounded. The second player for Liverpool came on and performed brilliantly against Sparta Prague. On the bench, Adrián will be the backup.

Protection
The defense, which was a major worry early in the season, is now one of Klopp’s less affected areas. Konaté’s injury would undoubtedly make matters more difficult, but Liverpool has the means to handle the absences in spite of this scare.

However, there are still a few important players absent. Obviously, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a huge loss, and Joël Matip, who sustained a serious injury against Fulham in December, probably played his last game for Liverpool.

To give Klopp options, players like Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, and Kostas Tsimikas have all bounced back from early-season setbacks. Joe Gomez has shown himself to be an extremely versatile member of the back line.

midfield
When it comes to raw numbers, the Liverpool midfield is the most severely damaged area of the team. Four members of Klopp’s engine room will be absent from the match against Manchester City.

In a technical sense, Thiago Alcântara suffered an injury against Arsenal at the same time as Alisson. The truth, though, is that the Spaniard’s season began with his first appearance of the year—a campaign completely derailed by injury.

For Stefan Bajčetić, the young man, it is a similar story. Due to his near-complete absence from the season, Liverpool has been extremely cautious when it comes to his comeback.

Ryan Gravenberch, meanwhile, lost the Carabao Cup final. Though they won’t be playing today, he and Curtis Jones are both anticipated to return rather soon—possibly before the international break.

Assault
Salah’s return has made four of the five senior attackers fit, which has to be considered a significant improvement. It enhances not just Klopp’s starting lineup but also his options from the bench, which he has employed to great effect this season.

Three people are still missing from the front line in spite of this. Shortly after being named the Premier League’s Player of the Month, Diogo Jota suffered an injury that would keep him out of action until after the international break.

Although the other two absent players are young, their absence shouldn’t be taken lightly considering the recent influence the Academy has had. After sustaining a concussion last weekend, Jayden Danns is anticipated to miss this game and won’t be available to provide any more valiant performances from the bench. Ben Doak, meanwhile, has a chronic injury, so it’s doubtful if we’ll see him before the season concludes.
