Over the course of the most of the calendar year, Neves, who is 19 years old, has been widely associated with a move away from Benfica. Manchester United was frequently cited as the primary contender for the player.

Benfica had voiced their wish to receive Neves’ full €120 million release clause on multiple occasions; nevertheless, they ultimately decided to accept an offer of €70 million from Paris Saint-Germain, who confirmed the signing of the young midfielder on Monday.

Neves is quoted as saying, “It is a great pride for me to join Paris Saint-Germain, a very ambitious club,” after he signed a deal that was for a period of five years. “I will give everything to help my teammates, grow in this fantastic Club and win many titles.”

In addition, the chairman of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, stated, “We are overjoyed to welcome Joao Neves to the Paris Saint-Germain family.” It is safe to say that Joao is among the most skilled players in Portugal and the entire world.

At Paris Saint-Germain, he joins with a great deal of enthusiasm and commitment to battle for our jersey, which is exactly what we anticipate from each and every one of our players. At Paris Saint-Germain, we are continuing to construct a brilliant young team that is based on teamwork, talent, and collective spirit. This team will serve as the cornerstone for our club’s great future.

A recent statement made by Benfica president Rui Costa acknowledged his dissatisfaction with the loss of Neves, but he also revealed that the sum that was being offered made it impossible to refuse PSG’s bid.

In an interview with A Bola, Costa stated, “I understand the criticism from the fans because their resentment is mine.” “I am responsible for forming squads and ensuring that Benfica is capable of winning titles. It is even more disheartening to me when you lose a player of Joao’s calibre who was trained here. The fact that I have known him since I was ten years old makes it difficult for me to watch him go.

“It is imperative that individuals comprehend that we have been delaying this transfer for a considerable amount of time, and that we have unequivocally rejected the initial suggestions. However, we have reached specific times and numbers that have made the transfer unavoidable. It is not conceivable for the club to give up funds of seventy million euros.

In spite of the fact that United may have been unsuccessful in acquiring Neves’ signature, the transfer may still be beneficial to them as they attempt to entice Manuel Ugarte, another midfielder, to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reports that came out of France the previous week, Paris Saint-Germain would be willing to loan Ugarte if they achieved a deal for Neves in the future.
