Arsenal will be hoping that the third time around is lucky for them in the Premier League after two seasons of nearly winning it but not quite.

Even the top teams could need a little improvement here and there, but Mikel Arteta’s club is in the fortunate position of not really needing to make many big changes to the first team this summer.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is the only player who a sizable segment of the fan base feels should be improved, aside from a striker who scores 20–25 goals a season.

It’s interesting to note that of the players the team has been connected to in recent months, one would surely be an improvement.

News about Arsenal transfers
Alphonso Davies, the standout left-back for Bayern Munich, was reportedly coveted by a number of teams, including Arsenal, according to a July report from TBR Football. However, the report stated that the Canadian was expected to sign a contract with Real Madrid, meaning the Gunners would not be getting him.

In order to prevent losing the gifted full-back for free the next season, Bayern is prepared to sell him this summer, according to a more recent claim from the Spanish newspaper AS. They may do so for as little as €30 million, or £26 million.

The competition for the former Vancouver Whitecaps ace has been entirely ripped wide by the German behemoths’ choice, and as TBR says in a recent report, this might allow the Gunners to make a comeback.

Though it would be a bold move on the part of Edu Gaspar and company, considering Davies’s calibre and the little cost, it is unquestionably worthwhile to try. He would be Zinchenko’s ideal replacement.

Davies’s comparison with Zinchenko
It’s no secret that both left-backs’ greatest strength is their attacking prowess, whether it be through deft passes or lunging sprints up and down the pitch, but which one produced more goals and assists in the previous campaign?

It should come as no surprise that Davies wins, having been dubbed “the best left back in the world” by former USMNT player Alexi Lalals. With three goals and six assists in 42 Bayern appearances, Davies has an amazing average of one goal per 4.66 games.

Zinchenko, on the other hand, averaged a goal involvement per 11.66 games for Arsenal last season despite only being able to score once and offer two assists in 35 appearances.

So what about their fundamental statistics? When we peek behind the hood, is the comparison equally one-sided?

Yes, it is. In fact, the Buduburam-born dynamo leads the pack in the great majority of pertinent metrics, including a wide range of offensive ones like shots on target, passing accuracy, key passes, goal-creating actions, and successful takeaways, all measured per ninety.
