FINALLY: Samu Omorodion sends clear message before Chelsea transfer announcement

While waiting to hear back about his Chelsea transfer, Samu Omorodion has been quite busy. The Blues first expressed interest in the 20-year-old during the first several weeks of the summer transfer season, but Atletico Madrid insisted that the player’s asking price was £70 million.

Chelsea considered Jonathan David and Maximilian Beier as replacements after receiving such a high quote. After that, talks started about Victor Osimhen’s possible loan move, with Romelu Lukaku joining Napoli on a permanent basis.

Chelsea was still interested in Omorodion even after making enquiries about all three of those options; two transfers to Atletico proved to be the catalyst for their shift of perspective. The Spanish team became Conor Gallagher’s viable alternative after a £33.7 million deal was reached.

Omorodion was once again the subject of negotiations for the England international, with Atletico willing to sell only in exchange for completing a transfer for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez. Chelsea eventually came to an agreement to get the Spaniard after an incredible £82.5 million deal was negotiated for the Argentine international.

After his medical in Paris, Omorodion’s contract with the Blues is expected to cost £35 million. He’s only played senior football in Spain, but the French capital was the chosen location for his medical examinations for a reason. This is due to Omorodion’s participation with the Spain Under-23s at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Abel Ruiz of Girona was frequently picked over Omorodion, but he did start and score in Spain’s 2-1 group stage loss to Egypt; at that time, Spain had advanced to the knockout stages. After that, even if Omorodion has two more minutes to play, he will be heading out of France and into West London with a gold medal.

Less than a month after the senior squad won the European championships, his country defeated the hosts, France, with a shocking 5-3 triumph in extra time. Following their victory, Omorodion celebrated by sharing a photo of himself and Marc Pubill clutching their gold medals on Instagram.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Omorodion has flown to London to conclude his Chelsea transfer and sign a seven-year contract now that his football summer is ended.
