Victor Osimhen has expressed his desire to depart from Napoli over the upcoming summer, although Arsenal does not seem to be a strong candidate for acquiring his services at the moment.

Victor Osimhen, who has been associated with Arsenal during the 2023/24 season, seems to be on the verge of a move. However, it is unlikely that he will be joining the team in north London.

In a recent media statement, Giovanni Manna, the sporting director of Napoli, affirmed that Osimhen really desires to go from his present club.

“Victor is a discontented player who desires to depart, and there was already a similar circumstance last year,” Manna said. “Our calmness stems from the presence of capable individuals in our squad who can serve as his replacements.”

“Osimhen possesses considerable strength as a player, however, our primary objective is to uphold the integrity of the team and prioritise the protection of the group.”

“We will observe the events that unfold within the upcoming 20-day period.”

Prior to this, L’Equipe had stated that Osimhen expressed his desire to depart and was prepared to abstain from training in order to facilitate a transfer.

At that point, Paris Saint-Germain were in the lead, but they refused to pay his €130m release clause. Subsequently, Chelsea has become involved in discussions, while Napoli has also shown interest in Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.

That may perhaps increase the likelihood of a move, with Napoli ensuring they receive a player in return.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte has indicated that there is a mutual understanding or agreement between the club and Osimhen over his future, implying that it is beyond his influence.

In June, reports indicated that Arsenal had no intention of making an offer. Despite several mentions in the Italian media, the English media has not shown much interest in the topic.

Osimhen achieved a total of 17 goals and four assists in 32 games this season, despite facing a few injuries and participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, where his team reached the final.
