Sometimes all that’s required to rediscover the lost form after spending a long period in one spot is a change of environment.

In David de Gea’s case, it appears that in just his second game for Fiorentina, he discovered his love for the game and the corresponding form.

De Gea’s ability to regain his best form was naturally questioned when he signed with the Italians, having missed an entire season of action.

The noise didn’t go down after Fiorentina let up three goals in their league debut and was substituted to the bench for their subsequent match.

Up until tonight, when he achieved something he hardly ever did for Manchester United—dropping a 10/10 masterpiece for Fiorentina in just his second game for them.

David de Gea master class
Since De Gea performed best when kept busy, United supporters had grown accustomed to him going into superhuman mode when the team was struggling.

His moments of error occurred when he had little to do and was called upon to play the ball from the back or make a save.

In the second leg of the Europa Conference League Playoffs against Puskas Akademia, everything went well for the Spaniard.

ADDITIONAL UNITED STORIES
When Fiorentina’s injury time in the second half reduced them to nine men and the tie was tied 2-2 overall, he went into superhuman mode.

His finest moment occurred after the normal time was over, even though he finished the game with eight saves, six of which were within the box.

Fans of United could have been forgiven for thinking of the Europa League final against Villarreal as De Gea advanced to stop the opponents’ fourth penalty, sending Fiorentina to the Europa Conference League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team was left trophyless on that particular day when De Gea not only missed one of his own kicks, but also failed to save any.

A comeback at Fiorentina?
Although this performance won’t hurt his chances of being Fiorentina’s top player, it could be too soon to call this his comeback.

This is because United supporters are aware of his tendency to cap off an impressive performance with an enigmatic miscalculation.

Notably, De Gea was obviously not a spent force as he left United at the conclusion of Erik ten Hag’s debut season as the Golden Glove winner.

But his inability to play the ball well and the growing amount of mistakes that were seeping into his game were what ultimately determined the outcome, forcing United to make a brutal choice.

He didn’t have a club for the entire season for a reason, and when he did, it was definitely at a team that isn’t among the best.

If he can turn this incredible start into a sustained run of good play, United supporters will be ecstatic; if not, his bizarre human highlight reel appearances at Old Trafford will also be frequent occurrences.
